Carrie Underwood takes no prisoners in the latest issue of Esquire -- bashing everyone from 'American Idol' judge Simon Cowell to her Dallas Cowboy's ex, Tony Romo. The 26-year-old country star reveals the honest truth about her life, why you'll never see her turn political and the harsh reality that "as you step off that stage, you're pretty much alone." See the juicy interview >> Her initial feelings about flying to L.A. for 'American Idol': "I was so nervous when I was on my way to L. A. I'd never been on a plane, and I was going alone. I kind of got teary-eyed. My dad was driving, and he said, "If you want to go home, we can go home, and you never have to think about this again. And I thought, If I don't go, I'm choosing for this not to happen. It will be my choice. So I figured it would be easier for me to get kicked off American Idol than to have it be my own decision."
What she really thinks about Simon Cowell: "Simon's obviously very smart. But he's not the smartest person I know."
On whether 'Cowboy Casanova' is about her ex Tony Romo: "No. I would never immortalize a guy that did me wrong. I would never give him that much credit."
Her thoughts on tabloids: "People can take your words and make them into something awful and something you never meant it to be... It's hard to find people who don't want something from you."
Why she won't use her fame to influence politics: "Americans don't need Carrie Underwood telling them who to vote for. They're smarter than that."
The reality of fame she's faced: "When people think of what it's like to be famous, they think of the Ritz. But I've been in hotels where I will not take my shoes off. I will wear flip-flops in the shower. I've seen more basements of venues than I've seen of the United States. People think, 'Oh, you travel around, you get to see the country.' I've seen basements, I've seen concrete, I've seen pillars."
The "controversy" about her first single: "After I released 'Jesus, Take the Wheel,' people started saying, 'Oh, it's kind of risky. You're coming out with a religious song.' And I was thinking, 'Really?' I grew up in Oklahoma, I always had a close relationship with God. I never thought it was risky in the least. If anything, I thought it was the safest thing I could do."

I watched Carrie Underwood's Holiday Special on television the other night. She is one of the best young singers I have heard in a long time. Hope she keeps her good girl image. Wow, when she sang O Holy Night I got the chills.

I agree. I got the chills too.
You said you hope she keeps her good girl image? Did she always have one? Have you ever watched any of her videos or other times she has sang on TV? Hmmmmmm guess good girl image doesn't equal Godly? Too much sexual undertones. She flaunts her body and the guys are lusting all the time. I had to over hear some man talk about a three some with her. Whatever. I am sure that is exactly what God wants her to do.
go figure....
carrie underwood is horrible. She should have never one idol.
CJ, it amazes me just how ignorant people can be. What other people say about a person and do doesn't always mirror what the person they are talking about has done. While I would agree that Carrie isn't "Squeaky Clean", I doubt if you are either. Why not spend your time trying to improve yourself, instead of trashing other people. There are two types of people on this earth. Those that make their "Lights" brighter by doing trying their best to do right and those that make their "Lights" brighter by snuffing other people's "Lights" out.
I absolutely adore Carrie Underwood. I think she is beautiful and very talented. However, I must say I was truly disappointed in her special this week. I thought it was going to be about Christmas and only in the end did we hear Christmas songs. I think her writers DID HER WRONG!!! Too much of the sister finding a man - I trully wanted Carrie in a Christmas Special.
I cant see what she said that can be thought of as bashing Simon Cowell, Im sure he would agree. As for Tony Romo, she is just being honest it wasn't nasty, or bashing. Just a statement.

Exactly - I guess they're trying to make it titillating but she clearly wasn't bashing them.
How exactly did she bash Simon Cowell? I'm not the smartest person I know - does that mean I'm putting myself down?
"People can take your words and make them into something awful and something you never meant it to be..."
I totally get it, Carrie.

I agree with you, Donna. It's another example of AOL or maybe Exquire magazine exaggerating a story to get readers to look @ their article. It really just makes them seem stupid. Carrie Underwood is a lovely young woman with a great deal of talent. More power to her in her ongoing successful career!

Wonderful answers Carrie. Stay as you are and you will stay on top! God bless you!

I see nothing wrong with What Carrie said about Simon and Tony Not a fan of either of them as well but I would not say what she said about Simon is a bash....With Tony she told the truth he did her wrong....She did not call him a jerk, or a creep or every curse word that may be in the book.

How did he do her wrong? Maybe he chose what he wanted, just like she has done. I haven't heard how he did her wrong. Maybe she did him wrong. She is way overrated as far as all the accolades she is getting.
popeater sucks, won,t let you post the truth

Carrie, is trying to find her way through life. Making mistakes is a learning process.
Carrie is one of the best. I love her music, her style and Oklahoma values. Her rendition of How Great Thou Art is fabulous.
