Carrie Underwood takes no prisoners in the latest issue of Esquire -- bashing everyone from 'American Idol' judge Simon Cowell to her Dallas Cowboy's ex, Tony Romo. The 26-year-old country star reveals the honest truth about her life, why you'll never see her turn political and the harsh reality that "as you step off that stage, you're pretty much alone." See the juicy interview >> Her initial feelings about flying to L.A. for 'American Idol': "I was so nervous when I was on my way to L. A. I'd never been on a plane, and I was going alone. I kind of got teary-eyed. My dad was driving, and he said, "If you want to go home, we can go home, and you never have to think about this again. And I thought, If I don't go, I'm choosing for this not to happen. It will be my choice. So I figured it would be easier for me to get kicked off American Idol than to have it be my own decision."
What she really thinks about Simon Cowell: "Simon's obviously very smart. But he's not the smartest person I know."
On whether 'Cowboy Casanova' is about her ex Tony Romo: "No. I would never immortalize a guy that did me wrong. I would never give him that much credit."
Her thoughts on tabloids: "People can take your words and make them into something awful and something you never meant it to be... It's hard to find people who don't want something from you."
Why she won't use her fame to influence politics: "Americans don't need Carrie Underwood telling them who to vote for. They're smarter than that."
The reality of fame she's faced: "When people think of what it's like to be famous, they think of the Ritz. But I've been in hotels where I will not take my shoes off. I will wear flip-flops in the shower. I've seen more basements of venues than I've seen of the United States. People think, 'Oh, you travel around, you get to see the country.' I've seen basements, I've seen concrete, I've seen pillars."
The "controversy" about her first single: "After I released 'Jesus, Take the Wheel,' people started saying, 'Oh, it's kind of risky. You're coming out with a religious song.' And I was thinking, 'Really?' I grew up in Oklahoma, I always had a close relationship with God. I never thought it was risky in the least. If anything, I thought it was the safest thing I could do."

I think Carrie Underwood is a very talented, seemingly down-to-earth person. I love some of her songs. I am not a fan of this rock/pop "country" genre of music, but that is only MY taste. It does not make it less creative or desirable to some people. She did an amazing job on the rock song "Alone" and "Before He Cheats" obviously resonated with a large sector of the population. She is trying to put her individual mark on the music industry. Who can fault her for that. And yes, I do prefer she not try to dress so sexy and I think it is good for young girls to see artists that sexuality does not equate to talent and/or creativity.

Pardon me, but her saying "Simon isn't the smartest person I know." Isn't bashing.

I dont call that bashing, its just her opinion, everyone has one, and she was not brutal or mean, she gave away no secrets-just an opinion.

I did miss the songs at the end because the beginning was just so dippy and boring. Oh well.

I voted for Bo to win over Carrie on IDOL, but I'm very impressed with her post Idol career. She's so nice even her "bashes" are pleasant.

cj, no one is godly. this is not heaven. we are not saints. carrie is a beautiful talented person. and im not sure if you noticed or not but she dosnt reveal nearly as much as most singers out there. she has a sexy taste but still classic at the same time. And no matter who u are u must admit that sex sells these days. shes just trying to make her way in this crewl world like all the rest of us.and just because u dont like a singer doesnt mean u have to bash them.

I have to say I love Carrie she has an amazing voice and she is not one to forget her fans. I think that she is amazing the way she is and she should stay the carrie that is true to her.. Someone like her should not have to worry about "bashing" anyone, she is better than that.

I can't stand Tony nor Simon, and one is a major womanizer , and the other one I can't even listen to him speak. Carrie is a major talent in the music industry, enough said!!!

if your trashing everyone you used to get where you are and trash your exes in public forum you end up with being alone when you step off of the stage.

It's so sad that she went from "Jesus take the wheel" to
"I didn't even know his last name" That pretty much did it for me. And as far as Ellen Degenerate goes...leave her in the gutter where she belongs...Idol is fixing to be a "Has Been".
Oh well...so goes the story

SINCE IDOL...I HAVE ALWAYS THOUGHT SHE WAS ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS, UNAFFECTED,DOWN TO EARTH AND GROUNDED. I WISH HER HUGE SUCCESS IN HER CARREER
