Alexa Ray's recent scare of taking too many homeopathic pills was the result of a "devastating heartbreak." In a newly issued statement, the parents slam a
NY Post report that ran earlier in the week that claimed her actions on Dec. 5 were a "cry for help" and were partly due to the perceived slow progress she's making in crafting a music career of her own.
Joel and Brinkley say the article "is filled with vicious lies and attempts to smear our character and that of our beloved daughter" and ask all news outlets to "not further exacerbate our daughter's situation by repeating and legitimizing these false reports."
Her ex-boyfriend, bassist Jimmy Riot, has so far declined to comment on the breakup that led to Alexa's taking of eight tablets of Traumeel, the herbal equivalent of Ibuprofen.
Joel herself made the 911 call, telling the dispatcher that she was having trouble breathing after taking too many pills.
She was then taken to St. Vincent's hospital in Manhattan. She is now back home recovering and "going to be fine," her dad told Newsday.

Every parent can imagine the pain and anguish we face as parents of a daughter who is working to recover from the dangerous actions she took while suffering a devastating heartbreak. As much as we hate dignifying tabloid stories with a response, we feel we must set the record straight to protect our family. The story that ran in the New York Post on December 8th, and has been subsequently spread across the Internet, is filled with vicious lies and attempts to smear our character and that of our beloved daughter. We ask the public and legitimate media outlets to please "consider the source" and to not further exacerbate our daughter's situation by repeating and legitimizing these false reports.

this is ridiculous obviously this chick can't handle pills even all natural ones i could take 4 -5 ibuprofens at once and nothing happens barely takes the edge off the pain i think she took something else lucky she didn't die

I have learned not to believe everything I read on here. I really have trouble with this story. If she wanted to get attention, she wouldnt have used this drug. She would have used something a lot stronger. She knew this, she may be a drug user, and took one too many this time. To save a reputation, requires a few stories. I believe this is one of them my self. Just a made up story, it beats the truth. Just my opinion.

I can only say my family and I heard her sing at Tin Angels a few years ago and she is just as talented as her Father. A different sound but very good. I too have wondered why she is not an overnight sensation. I think its in the marketing. I can relate to the pain and suffering her and her family is dealing with. I wish them all the best.

54 years old and having my heart broke is hands down the hardest thing I've ever been through except for losing my parents............Good luck sweetheart , talk to your parents and the people who love you , you will get through this .

Alexa is a beautiful young woman and I remember seeing a video of her mom holding her when she was a baby. When I see her now, I think "what a beautiful young woman she has grown to be." God bless her and her mom and dad.

Traumeel is a homeopathic product. You basically cannot overdose on a homeopathic product. It must have been something else.

I hope she will be all right, but I hope that Billy and Christy don't sweep it under the rug. This was a cry for help not to the point of hurting herself, because she called for help, but something is eating at her. Lets hope she gets the help she needs. God Bless! Stand Strong Alexa, Life will throw you bad bones, you have to deal with them no matter how painful. Fight back is the way.

What a bunch of mean people on here! She took too many painkillers (herbal) and thought better of it and called 911. Don't think that homeopathic and herbal medications can't make you sick in large amounts, because they can. She was hurting and used poor judgment and took care of herself by getting help. Why do people have to criticize and say horrible things about her? I hope she's feeling better.

I know Alexa Ray personally. She and I also have a mutual friend, and we met in February 2007 She is a wonderful person. Alexa Ray is a MySpace friend as well. She is such a sweetheart! It must be very difficult for her having been in the spotlight all her life. She has made such great strides in her own right. She spent a lot of time with my mom, Alexa, my dad, and I at Mohegan Sun in 2007. All will be well...I just know it! Love you Alexa!!!! Susan Mills
