Despite her love for skimpy stage costumes, Lily Allen tells Q magazine (via Daily Express) she's has body dysmorphic disorder. When asked what she sees when she looks in the mirror, Lily said, "Someone who is more overweight than they actually are." Allen admits she now sports a svelte new figure after embarking on a healthy eating and exercise regime."I was sitting in bed last night and I caught sight of myself in the mirror," Allen said. "I said, 'God, that's a funny looking thing.' My boyfriend [Sam Cooper] said, 'You are, but in a very sweet and beautiful way.' That was smooth of him."
BDD is a psychological disorder that involves preoccupation with imagined defects with one's body.
She shocked fans in 2007 by taking to her online blog to discuss her fears over her shape.
The post was titled "Fat, ugly and sh**ter than Winehouse" and read, "I write to you in a sea of tears from my hotel bed in Seattle. I have spent the past hour researching gastric bypass surgery and laser liposuction."

I would say that I agree with you about one thing...MANY women suffer from body dysmorphic disorder in varying degrees. In my opinion though, this is something that has been created, and built on by the media. If not for all of those 95 pound 5' 10" runway models...at 5'4" and 135 pounds (BTW I used to tip the scale at 170), I KNOW that I am healthy (routine exercise and healthy diet - not even close to overweight, and yet I am not happy with the way my body when I look into a mirror...dysmorphic body image...yes to some degree. It's definitely a difficult thought process to change.
Just because you've never heard of it doesn't mean it's not a real disorder. What? Did the first time you heard of cancer or HIV, did you think it was a joke? I have a friend in college who has the same disorder as Lily, and it's sad because both her and lily are beautiful woman who can't see what the world sees...though, with some of the people posting on this...some of them can't either...

are you serious, Lily Allen has no talent? listen to her albums, she is a great songwriter...who cares what she looks like.

BDD is a real disease but if Lily Allen has it, it must not be a severe case. A person who is that self concious wouldn't want to get on a stage or go in front of a camera. Makes no sense.

GOOD FOR HER. NOW LET HER GO SUICIDAL.

how can you say its not a real disorder? many , many people are effected by this...but normally when people have BDD they are dabbling in Anorexia and/or Bulimia; and if it goes far enough it leads to death.

Who gives a damn about any of them? I don't! Get a life.

I'm sorry, but I have a HUGE issue with you saying that this is not a real mental illness. Regardless of whether or not Lily Allen actually has Body Dysphormic Disorder, it is real. Saying the a disease is not legitimate or real is very upsetting to people who actually suffer from it, because it only makes them feel more inferior and worse about themselves. Believe me, I know, seeing as I suffer from this mental illness along with others. Maybe you should check your facts before posting about things you know nothing about.

you guys are bitter, ignorant haters. BDD is an actual illness. maybe if you spent your time reading or doing something positive for humanity instead of talking sh** about people you wish you could be you might realize that.
lily is a talented woman, is in no way fat, and could possibly be helping other women or men with the same issues.
get your heads out of your a**

Who's Lily Allen?

Not only who is she, why is she given a pulpit to whine?
Does anybody care about this. Just another excuse.

While Lily Allen may have body-image issues...I don't believe she has BDD. If she really did, the fact that she changed her eating habits and has under gone an exercise plan...would NOT change how she feels about her body. People with BDD are never happy with their body, despite exercise, surgery, etc. BDD is much more ingrained in one's mindset...
However, I am glad she got over her issues. Good for her.
Although Lily...you have always looked good. :)
