Cori Rist Becomes Latest to Tell on Tiger: 'He Was Not Happy at Home'

Cori Rist, one of the other other women in Tiger Woods' life, appeared on the 'Today' show Monday to defend herself from tabloid reports and express deep regret for what she claims was a 2 1/2 year fling with the embattled golfer. "It was just very comfortable," the 31-year-old single mom said of her first encounter with Woods, at an NYC nightclub in 2006. "He was not afraid to show his affection in front of everybody that was there." After that, "he led me by the hand, and we just kind of disappeared, and that was the start."

Their relationship involved meeting up in hotels, where Woods would book adjoining rooms. A source told the Daily News, "Tiger would typically get a large suite at a hotel. Someone would book Cori an adjacent room, so she wouldn't be seen coming into his room."

Rist knew Woods was not available, but claims he told her his marriage to wife Elin Nordegren was in bad shape.

"He was not happy at home with his wife," she said. "He would stay there because she was pregnant and they were expecting their first child. Because of his reputation he had to uphold that."

Rist believed she was Woods' only mistress, but soon she picked up signs he was cheating with others. She recalls finding him texting someone in the middle of the night, and believes he was talking to another woman.

She said the relationship ended in September after she declined his offers to meet up in places like Australia and Dubai. "We had an argument over how I don't make enough time for him, and that was it."

Rist is one of more than a dozen women who have come forward with claims of affairs with Woods. The golfer's wife, Elin, was spotted over the weekend without her wedding ring and is reportedly poised to file for divorce.

A major sponsor announced Sunday that it is dropping golf superstar Tiger Woods amid a scandal over his personal life. Global consulting firm Accenture PLC said Woods is "no longer the right representative" after the "circumstances of the last two weeks."

Woods released a statement on his Web site Friday, saying he was taking an "indefinite break" from golf to focus on his family amid revelations of his "infidelity." On Saturday, The Associated Press reported that Woods' wife, Elin Nordegren, recently purchased a home on a Swedish island that is only accessible by boat. Another alleged mistress, Jaimee Grubbs, later provided Us Weekly magazine a voicemail she said came from Woods two days before Thanksgiving, asking her to remove her name from her voicemail. "I'm sorry for her pain," Rist said of Elin. "I hate that I'm a part of it."

"I feel like I have to take responsibility for the things I've done and one day I'm going to have to look my son in the face and explain all this. I'm very sorry."

Woods has been plagued by scandal since he crashed his SUV into a fire hydrant and tree next to his Florida home on Nov. 27. The crash came the same week the National Enquirer ran a story alleging that Woods was having an affair with a "New York City party girl who has been caught up in a cheating scandal with the multimillionaire golf superstar."

That woman turned out to be Rachel Uchitel, not Rist. But in the two weeks since Woods' crash, scores of other women have been linked to the golfer.

On Saturday, The Associated Press reported that Woods' wife recently purchased a home on a Swedish island that is only accessible by boat. They have been married for five years and have a 2-year-old daughter and a 10-month-old son.

Even if only a handful of the alleged mistresses turn out to be legit, many are left wondering: how did Woods carry on this double life for so long? Why did it take so long to get caught?

The golfer's profound dominance within his sport likely played a major role. Because he is not only the game's best player, but also its most charismatic and profitable figure, many believe journalists and fellow players avoided the scandalous subject for fear of damaging the sport as a whole.

Further, because golf is not a team sport, Woods was able to operate in a fashion that allowed secrecy.

Even so, sportswriter John Feinstein ('A Good Walk Spoiled') believes Woods' inner circle must have known about his dalliances.

"I can't see how his agent or caddie could not have known," Feinstein told the LA Times. "It's his agent's job to know what the heck the guy was doing. If he didn't know, he should be fired."

If you will notice all these women were all from two and a half to three years back...when his father died and when his wife got pregnant. Nobody knows what goes on behind closed doors for one and I think after his father died he must have just lost it or something.I'm not making excuses for him just trying to understand why he would do this.And as for the women ..well they are all goldiggers without any values whatsoever.They didn't mean anything to him and they knew it very well .Of course that doesn't make it any easier on his wife.Now all these women want is money and they can't get it from Tiger so guess what here they are! They are dispicable.He was wrong but they are JUST as wrong as he was.and they will milk this for as long as they can ...sad

If she didn't want her son to know she would have kept her mouth shut and not gone on national TV. She is just angry because she thought she was the only one..now that she knows that she's not..This is her revenge. Congrats on your 15 minutes of fame Cori. If you really felt sorry for Elin you wouldn't have added to her pain by announcing your affair to the world. At some point Tiger must have seen a reflection of his beautiful image, perhaps in some pond on a golf course, fell in love with it, and became in his mind's eye a god residing amongst much lesser gods. I love how all of these hose bags feign remorse for hurting Elin.You knew exactly what you were doing and I hope that you get the exact same in return. As for Tiger--maybe he would have been happier at home if he concentrated more on his marriage instead of getting laid. The only reason he is remorseful is the prospect of losing all of his money.
