Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal Split?

Just weeks before Jake Gyllenhaal was planning to propose to Reese Witherspoon (which we previously reported), PopEater's Rob Shuter has learned exclusively that the couple have split. A source close to the couple says that the Hollywood duo had reached that ever-trying breaking point in their relationship, leading to their break-up.

"The relationship was at the point where they either got engaged or broke up," a friend of Jake's tells me. "There is no doubt that they love each other very much, but Reese wasn't ready to say 'I do.' And if she wasn't ready after two years of dating, Jake wondered if she ever would be."

Both are said to be devastated by the split, and although friends hope for them to get back together, most agree it's very doubtful.

Reps have not returned calls for comment as of yet.

If they love each other that much they will not break up over weather or not to get married. It would be because one or the other has someone else and says no as not to hurt someones feelings, because they reALLY HAVE SOMEONE ELSE. or it could be about pre nupts,and know they will break up eventually or it could be because if they get married she could loose their food stamps or social security checks by getting married. I think they should get married.

Celebrity relationships not working out stopped being news back in the f**kin 50's! They date each other, marry each other, f**k each other and have kids with weird names with each other....what else is new? When they actually start staying together in normal relationships, THAT will be news......this is just business as usual on the Hollywood dating carousel!
