Lost in Baby Nation, Sofia Coppola Pregnant for a Second Time

Director Sofia Coppola, daughter of Hollywood luminary Francis Ford Coppola, is expecting her second child with musician Thomas Mars, reports PEOPLE.

Mars, frontman for alternative rock band Phoenix, confirmed the news during an interview with Chicago's WXRT radio station.

"I heard the story that if you play Bach, [babies in the womb] get smarter," joked the French-born rocker.

Coppola and Mars have a 3-year-old daughter named Romy and have been together for four years. Coppola was previously married to Spike Jonze, director of 'Being John Malkovich,' 'Adaptation' and 'Where the Wild Things Are,' a fantasy film based on the classic children's book by Maurice Sendak.

When asked if he would play music from his band's latest album, 'Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix', to his prospective child, Mars quipped "We have to study it. Not sure it's a good idea."

Coppola lives in Paris and is editing her latest film 'Somewhere' starring Academy Award winner Benecio Del Toro ('Traffic') and Michelle Monaghan. It is expected to debut at the Cannes Film Festival in May.

Coppola, 38, won an Academy Award for Original Screenplay for 'Lost in Translation' starring Bill Murray. This made her the third generation of her family to win an Oscar after father Francis and grandfather Carmine, a musician. She was also the first American woman to be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Director.

Mars is the lead vocalist for Grammy-nominated French rock band Phoenix. He has previously collaborated with Ms. Coppola on the soundtracks to her films 'The Virgin Suicides,' 'Marie Antoinette,' 'Lost in Translation' and most recently 'Somewhere.'

She can drop a litter of wolves if it keeps her from making another movie. "Lost In Translation" was hateful and sick but that French pix was in another class of junk altogether. She's appears to have the makings of IHOP midnight-shift waitress, but she's so sluggish that she'd be fired by 1:00 am.
