Gosselin Divorce Final ... Finally

After a well-publicized and scandal-marked separation, the divorce of Jon and Kate Gosselin is final, TMZ reports. Judge Arthur Tilson has signed the papers, making the Gosselin marriage officially over. Kate calls the process "challenging" and says that the family's next step will be "restructuring our lives."

Kate says, "I am very relieved that our divorce has been finalized, and I look forward to the New Year, focusing on our children." Her lawyer adds that Kate "will continue to reside with all eight of her children in the former marital home."

The lawyer, Mark Momjian, says, "We are very pleased with the final outcome."

Judge Tilson signed the documents following an arbiter's decision on dividing the couple's assets, despite a recent statement from Jon's camp suggesting the divorce would not be finalized until early 2010.

A report on MSNBC says that the papers were filed in spite of a last-minute holdup: Jon's gun. He was spotted shooting a .38 pistol on the couple's Pennsylvania property. On Thursday, a judge issued a court order barring the gun from the property; whether the ban remains a part of the final divorce agreement in unclear.

I own a gun and am in favor of having guns in the home, but I have to say: If Jon were in MY home with 8 little children, I'd make that part of the divorce decree too! That man has to be one of the most irresponsible "men" that I've seen.

CONGRATULATIONS KATE!! Marrying Jon was crazy. You have a big job ahead of you with raising the kids, but you are one of the most CAPABLE women out there! You ROCK. Just because there are so many people who felt threatened by your leadership abilities, they flocked to Team Jon. I would have had that guy on a choke chain too! Ugh. You can do SO MUCH BETTER! (Jon has 24 year olds dumping him!)

You're nuts. Anyone who knows ANYTHING about relationships is that it takes TWO to arrive at the mess called divorce. You did not live in their home so like everyone you just picked a side based on what you saw on the outside world. Maybe the children deserve TWO parents (who created this mess together) to grow up and work together for their childrens sake. The kids will NEVER be totally ok no matter how many ears pass and how many therapists they see. Don't even try to tell me I don't know what I am talking about. I lived it already.

Kath, I agree with you. Kate is a beautiful woman and loving mother. She can and will do much better than with that Jon character. I wish her and her children only the best and very Merry Merry Christmas and many many happy and wonderful years full of joy and prosperity. God bless you Kate.

To all the people that want to trash Kate, how nice would you be if any of you had 8 kids with six of them being the same age. I wasn't a regular observer of the show, but everytime I watched it I was in awe of how she handled her overwhelmed life. I have 3 kids and two of them are disabled and whenever I feel like I can't go on any longer, i'll watch their show and count my blessings. Thank you Kate for giving parents that really have challenges an example to follow. Let's keep it in perspective people.
