Gaffes, Awkwardness Rule TV This Week

Maybe it's something about the impending holiday break that has everyone on TV flubbing their choice of words this week, making for a big old barrel of awkward on the tube. Whether it was guests like Jude Law or hosts like Elisabeth Hasselbeck or Oprah Winfrey, it seemed like everyone had already checked their brains -- and questioning/answering abilities -- out to lunch. Hudson on 'Oprah'

The week began with Oprah Winfrey's big exclusive interview with the stunning Kate Hudson. During her chat with Hudson -- who's starring in the musical 'Nine' -- Winfrey peppered her with questions about Alex Rodriguez. Herein lies the rub: Hudson and Rodriguez have pretty much broken up, but the interview was taped three weeks ago while they were possibly still together (having never given an official confirmation that they were ever dating or had ever broken up adds a bit of mystery to the whole situation). Flummoxed by the situation, a giggling Hudson tells Winfrey: "I don't even know where to begin" after she was shown a photo of the two kissing. Hudson says she never knows how to handle questions about "personal relationships in your life and then how and where to discuss them." Still, she's a pro, and wound up telling Oprah that she was "joyful" about her status with A-Rod. Now... probably not so much.

Perhaps the most uncomfortable TV uh-oh of the week came from 'View' co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck. The whole 'View' crew was interviewing Stanley Tucci about his new film 'The Lovely Bones,' and Whoopi Goldberg asked the actor if he'd read the highly-popular book that the movie stems from. Tucci said he hadn't, but that his wife did and that she didn't want him to be in the film version.

Hasselbeck chimes in, asking Tucci if his wife "has seen any parts" of the film, to which Tucci quickly answers "No, no, no." Tucci's wife Kate died in May after a battle with cancer. The subject doesn't come up again, and we're sure Hasselbeck meant no harm with the question and/or didn't know about the situation.

Finally, the week was capped off with Jude Law talking to David Letterman on 'The Late Show.' Law, who was on to promote his new movie Sherlock Holmes, was asked by Letterman about his holiday plans. Law said "I usually try to take the children on a bit of an adventure," leading Letterman to ask "how many kids?" Law responds that he has three children. The problem here? He actually has four. In September, model and former Law gal pal Samantha Burke gave birth to Law's child. The "three" Law was referring to are his kids with ex-wife Sadie Frost, who it seems he has a better relationship with.

Brainless Lizzy from the View did not flub up....its just one more of her usual stupid remarks which she is notorious for...She definately has hit her head too too many times on that reality show she was voted off...HEY BARBARA...Its time you voted this nit-wit off....Get a new replacement, one with a BRAIN and get rid of the BRAINLESS one...

Nice of Loser Liz to do her research on the guests that they bring on the show. She's lucky Mr. Tucci is such a gracious man.

They chose Lizzy for the show based on what qualifications, exactly? She's not exactly an engaging personality. She is, quite simply, a graceless celbutard.

I totally agree. Elizabeth is a disgrace. I won't watch the View when Elizabeth is on. It was good when she was on maternity leave so I could watch.
When she first came on she was supposed to be the fashion expert but she always wears the strangest outfits besides sounding so very stupid.

Everone makes mistakes but this is a bit beyonds
Hasselbeck should have known better either by a general interest in the guest who is appearing on the programs or by her production staff giving the 411 on her guests. Either way she looked a bit amateurish.

Saw the interview with Oprah and she did not grill anyone. She asked how they met and Hudson stammered about. Who really cares. Jude Law has no morals, and again who cares. Entertainers get obscene money, and do whatever floots their boat. I really hate when they act all upset and violated when asked about their personal life. Boo Hoo!!!

Concerning the Oprah "Gaffe", if the writer truly investigated he/she would have known this was a repeat so Oprah wasn't asking anything that was "old news". Get your facts right before bashing her.

... because when Elizabeth goofs up its unforgivable and she has no brain.. yet when Whoopi gets up and asks actors about movies they have never been in, it's simply an honest mistake....(asking Ian McKellen about the Harry Potter films) Let's give Lizzy a bit of a break. She was gestating and lactating and generally distracted by a pregnancy and a baby when Tucci's wife passed. That was a perfectly understandable mistake and I for one, as a mother who has lost more than her fair share of gestational brain cells, give her grace.

Jude Law an object lesson for the scores of brainless women who have sex with "celebrities." Law knocks em up and then quickly forgets that his seed grew into an actual live, human being. The way these so called "celebrities" trade partners, and have kids with a variety of people, I think they should be required to have DNA testing before any of them are allowed to marry or reproduce.
