Maybe it's something about the impending holiday break that has everyone on TV flubbing their choice of words this week, making for a big old barrel of awkward on the tube. Whether it was guests like Jude Law or hosts like Elisabeth Hasselbeck or Oprah Winfrey, it seemed like everyone had already checked their brains -- and questioning/answering abilities -- out to lunch. Watch Three Instances After the Jump
Hudson on 'Oprah'
The week began with Oprah Winfrey's big exclusive interview with the stunning Kate Hudson. During her chat with Hudson -- who's starring in the musical 'Nine' -- Winfrey peppered her with questions about Alex Rodriguez. Herein lies the rub: Hudson and Rodriguez have pretty much broken up, but the interview was taped three weeks ago while they were possibly still together (having never given an official confirmation that they were ever dating or had ever broken up adds a bit of mystery to the whole situation). Flummoxed by the situation, a giggling Hudson tells Winfrey: "I don't even know where to begin" after she was shown a photo of the two kissing. Hudson says she never knows how to handle questions about "personal relationships in your life and then how and where to discuss them." Still, she's a pro, and wound up telling Oprah that she was "joyful" about her status with A-Rod. Now... probably not so much.
Perhaps the most uncomfortable TV uh-oh of the week came from 'View' co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck. The whole 'View' crew was interviewing Stanley Tucci about his new film 'The Lovely Bones,' and Whoopi Goldberg asked the actor if he'd read the highly-popular book that the movie stems from. Tucci said he hadn't, but that his wife did and that she didn't want him to be in the film version.
Hasselbeck chimes in, asking Tucci if his wife "has seen any parts" of the film, to which Tucci quickly answers "No, no, no." Tucci's wife Kate died in May after a battle with cancer. The subject doesn't come up again, and we're sure Hasselbeck meant no harm with the question and/or didn't know about the situation.
Finally, the week was capped off with Jude Law talking to David Letterman on 'The Late Show.' Law, who was on to promote his new movie Sherlock Holmes, was asked by Letterman about his holiday plans. Law said "I usually try to take the children on a bit of an adventure," leading Letterman to ask "how many kids?" Law responds that he has three children. The problem here? He actually has four. In September, model and former Law gal pal Samantha Burke gave birth to Law's child. The "three" Law was referring to are his kids with ex-wife Sadie Frost, who it seems he has a better relationship with.
Kate Hudson is a poor example for her child. She hops from one man's bed to another. I refuse to see her movies. But then most Hollywood doesn't any morals.
I TOTALLY AGREE....SHE HAS TURNED INTO A FIRST CLASS OVER PAID TRAMP....GOLDIE MUST BE DYING FROM THE ANTICS OF HER OFF SPRING...NOT THAT SHE IS MUCH BETTER LIVING AND BREEDING WITH A GUY FOR OVER 20 YEARS AND NOT FINDING THE TIME TO GET MARRIED...BUT THEN THAT IS THE NEW HOLLYWOOD...SHACK UP WITH AS MANY AS YOU CAN...THEN MOVE ON TO SPORTS FIGURES...BLACK OR WHITE...JUST FILL YOUR DANCE CARD
Brainless Lizzy Has way overstayed her 15 minutes of Fame earned on a Classless T.V. Reality Show. Oh , Her other claim to Fame " I married a Football Player " Please even the Producers of this Show have to be getting Tired of her No-Talent, Ignorant, and Narcissistic Personality !!!!
The Oprah episode was actually a repeat from about a month ago. So the questions about Kate & A-Rod were timely when they were asked. And I assume they chose to repeat it since the movie is finally being released. Working in the TV industry, I know that editing 1-2 minutes out of an hour long show is generally not going to happen because of requirements regarding running times.
hey tony: do you know about every facet of a celebrity's personal life? did you know that tucci's wife passed away? because most people have this thing called a life and so what if Lizzy didn't have that info on hand. she made and honest mistake. i guess you must be one of the perfect ones. lighten up you liberal punk!
"its just one more of her usual stupid remarks which she is notorious for"...........Guess what? People make the "she's dead" mistake all the time. A polite person informs them of their ignorance. Equally polite people don't mention it as a gaff - it's a simple mistake. However, the media, and apparently this blog, isn't made up of civil, polite, people. Like you, for instance.
The TV show with Oprah was a repeat, Jude Law and his wife took 3 of his 4 children to Brazil on vacation and Elizabeth Hasselbeck should have done some research on Stanley Tucci because she's an interviewer. It's her job to know about her guests which is why the show is called "View" so she doesn't ask stupid and embarrassing questions like this one.
Elizabeth Hasslebeck is the only thing worth watching on that show. Without her the others would fade into the ugly oblivion they deserve. Those who consider her brainless and/or offensive are merely socialist puppets whose opinions are meaningless...they are cattle.
Don....You say "ugly""Brainless"socialist"stimulating conversation from a woman I suppose is not your cup of tea because the other woman....are intelligent...............

actually its the job of the writers to do research for questions being asked on the show. that's what they get paid to do; its in their jobs description...
bunny69, I'm not sure they have writers for these questions because they don't know how the conversation will go because as soon as they brought up his wife she asked about her, but, you're right the writers should have told them some background on him like his wife being dead.
Kate Hudson is not pretty and why she has a career in Hollywood can only be due to bias favoring her mother and her Jewishness. Its sort of insulting that we have boring actors like Hudson - not pretty, average and who act like a piece of dead wood inflicted upon us. A-ROD? Didn't 52 year old Madonna dump him for a younger guy? Please! Who the hell cares about dumb plain jane Kate?!
What a silly mommy! Katie Holmes takes Suri into the water in her clothes as the two spend the afternoon at the beach in Miami. More of Today's Hottest Photos

Why can't the view hire a rightwinger who's less obnoxious and screechy like Meghan McCain. Send hassebarbie packing.

Why don't they interview people that actually do something important with their lives?
