Gaffes, Awkwardness Rule TV This Week

Maybe it's something about the impending holiday break that has everyone on TV flubbing their choice of words this week, making for a big old barrel of awkward on the tube. Whether it was guests like Jude Law or hosts like Elisabeth Hasselbeck or Oprah Winfrey, it seemed like everyone had already checked their brains -- and questioning/answering abilities -- out to lunch. Hudson on 'Oprah'

The week began with Oprah Winfrey's big exclusive interview with the stunning Kate Hudson. During her chat with Hudson -- who's starring in the musical 'Nine' -- Winfrey peppered her with questions about Alex Rodriguez. Herein lies the rub: Hudson and Rodriguez have pretty much broken up, but the interview was taped three weeks ago while they were possibly still together (having never given an official confirmation that they were ever dating or had ever broken up adds a bit of mystery to the whole situation). Flummoxed by the situation, a giggling Hudson tells Winfrey: "I don't even know where to begin" after she was shown a photo of the two kissing. Hudson says she never knows how to handle questions about "personal relationships in your life and then how and where to discuss them." Still, she's a pro, and wound up telling Oprah that she was "joyful" about her status with A-Rod. Now... probably not so much.

Perhaps the most uncomfortable TV uh-oh of the week came from 'View' co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck. The whole 'View' crew was interviewing Stanley Tucci about his new film 'The Lovely Bones,' and Whoopi Goldberg asked the actor if he'd read the highly-popular book that the movie stems from. Tucci said he hadn't, but that his wife did and that she didn't want him to be in the film version.

Hasselbeck chimes in, asking Tucci if his wife "has seen any parts" of the film, to which Tucci quickly answers "No, no, no." Tucci's wife Kate died in May after a battle with cancer. The subject doesn't come up again, and we're sure Hasselbeck meant no harm with the question and/or didn't know about the situation.

Finally, the week was capped off with Jude Law talking to David Letterman on 'The Late Show.' Law, who was on to promote his new movie Sherlock Holmes, was asked by Letterman about his holiday plans. Law said "I usually try to take the children on a bit of an adventure," leading Letterman to ask "how many kids?" Law responds that he has three children. The problem here? He actually has four. In September, model and former Law gal pal Samantha Burke gave birth to Law's child. The "three" Law was referring to are his kids with ex-wife Sadie Frost, who it seems he has a better relationship with.

Elizabeth Hassel-not-hot is ruining that show. She never smiles, is always so rigid, hates to be argued with, and needs to be let go and off the show. Can't stand her. The other 4 are great.

A co-host should be prepared but I don't know why everyone is shocked....its elizabeth...asking stupid questions....she is in a position she can't handle...just like sarah.....they need to just get rid of her...........

It's obvious the libs don't like Elisabeth. Well, I can't stand Joy. She is the boob on the show and is the one who needs to go. She is obnoxious and won't let anyone get a word in. As for Elisabth's flub--no one on the show, including Barbara, said anything. They probably didn't know either. The way he said his wife had read the book, who would have thought his wife was dead. He didn't say "my late wife" read the book. He was gracious as he could have embarrased Elisabeth.

Hey Bunny....She is paid big bucks to make an ass of herself is not acceptable...I did know his wife died, i saw it on the news when he said it would be very difficult to raise their children without her...Dizzy Lizzy should have researched the guests before they show up and not just try to wing it especially since she does not have the capability to...She is stupid, insensitive and lacks class...He should have said to her politely "My wife died 7 months ago from cancer you moron so dont ask me another question as long as i am sitting on this couch" ....

Maybe now you will listen to your viewers. We keep telling you that Elizabeth does not know what she is talking about. Make the show more enjoyable and get rid of Liz and Sheri. This kind of show should be for grown ups and neither of them qualify.

I DON'T LIKE TO WATCH THE VIEW WHEN ELIZABETH IS ON. HER VOICE JUST TURNS ME OFF. I REALLY CAN'T UNDERSTAND WHAT SHE IS SAYING WHEN SHE SPEAKS. SHE SHOULD DO HER HOMEWORK AND MAKE SURE SHE IS BRIEFED ABOUT THE GUEST BEFORE THE VIEW GOES ON. THERE ARE SO MANY CO-HOST OUT THERE THAT I WOULD LOVE TO SEE ON THE SHOW INSTEAD OF ELIZABETH. GET HER OFF THE SHOW AND I BET THE VIEW WOULD BE A SMASH IF THEY GET THE OPRAH SHOW SPOT. I PERSONALLY WOULD PREFER ELLEN. .
