It's not every day that someone of the magnitude of Dr. Bill Cosby comes by our offices. The man is a legend in every sense, and we were honored he gave us the time to chat about his new project. 'State of Emergency' is a rap album backed by Cosby featuring The Cosnarati, a group of musicians geared towards keeping a positive message and uniting communities through music. They also hold group listening parties in person and online, encouraging those involved to discuss with one another what they think about the music. Or, as Dr. Cosby tells PopEater, "I then wanted to play them for groups of people and then have people talk to each other pertaining to how the selections touched them so that they could begin to find out that they're not alone. When, when will you ever get rid of old stereotypes? I know I am wasting my time trying to educate you but not all blacks are unemployed, on welfare or fail to pay taxes. Yes, the media helps you keep your ideas but try developing some on your own. Where I live the majority of individuals using WIC or EBT cards are white males. Yes, it shocks me too. I guess their girlfriends or wives are too embarassed to use them. In this point in time, it seems the hardworking have been reduced to public assistance. Soon, I guess you will be bashing them too.
The message is in the music, but who determines what music we hear? What's sold in the mainstream is sex, abuse, drugs, live fast, die hard and or get rich trying. We can't fault Cosby for trying, but he also doesn't control the airwaves. Where's the Black Station in outer space? Cosby be like Howard Stern and get a Sirius Channel for Blacks to talk and self-reflect? I'd help you with that project. I was the Quasi-Liberal.
