Fans and friends were shocked by the untimely death of actress Brittany Murphy on Sunday morning. The 'Clueless' and 'Girl, Interrupted' actress went into full cardiac arrest, and paramedics were unable to revive her. Murphy, 32, was pronounced dead upon arrival at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, and LA County Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter told the press Sunday evening that the tragedy was likely the result of natural causes, reports Access Hollywood.Capt. John Kades of the coroner's office says, "Foul play is not suspected at this time because there were no outward signs of trauma or other injuries," according to PEOPLE.
Some colleagues were concerned about Murphy weeks before her death. The actress showed up for the for the opening of Tt Collection's Pop-Up shop in LA, looking rail thin. Reports that she'd been let go from a film shooting for disrupting the set were denied by her rep, who claimed, "She was not nor has she ever been fired from any job big or small ... [Due] to creative differences Ms. Murphy and the production mutually parted ways."
The director of Murphy's 2008 project 'Across the Hall,' Alex Merkin, said that the actress was always professional but acknowledged she'd been dealing with personal issues. "I just remember she was going through a lot at the time surrounding her husband being in the hospital."
Sources claim that Murphy herself didn't cause the disruption on set - husband of two years, Simon Monjack did. ""Monjack came on the set inebriated," 'Shrinking Charlotte' director Michael Z Gordon told The Hollywood Reporter. "The producers wanted to keep him away. Brittany of course defended him. And so she was let go."
TMZ reports that the actress had experienced flu-like symptoms in the days leading to her death, and that Murphy was seriously ill a few hours before she collapsed. Sources told the website that Murphy began vomiting early Sunday morning. The sources also claimed that authorities found no illegal drugs in Murphy's home, but it is apparent that the actress was taking some prescription medications. After the 911 call, Murphy's mother Sharon told paramedics her daughter was diabetic.
Witnesses told TMZ that Murphy's husband told hospital staff that he did not want an autopsy performed on his wife. However, as part of the coroner's investigation, a pending autopsy has been confirmed.
"We don't have an autopsy scheduled yet, but we will do it as soon as possible," Kades said. "Given all the worldwide attention, if we can get it done [Monday], we will."
"The sudden loss of our beloved Brittany is a terrible tragedy," Murphy's family said in a statement. "She was our daughter, our wife, our love and a shining star. We ask you to respect our privacy at this time."
Murphy made her big splash in Hollywood in 1995's 'Clueless,' in which she played the ditzy character Tai. She went on to co-star in popular films like 'Girl, Interrupted' with Angelina Jolie and '8 Mile,' where she played Eminem's love interest. She was also the voice of Luanne Platter for more than 230 episodes of the popular Fox cartoon sitcom 'King of the Hill.'
Aside from acting, Murphy also dabbled in music occasionally. In 2006, she scored a hit by pairing up with DJ Paul Oakenfold on the song 'Faster Kill Pussycat,' which became a club staple. She also covered two songs -- including Queen's 'Somebody to Love' -- in the animated movie 'Happy Feet.'
Ashton Kutcher, who shared the screen with Murphy in 2003's 'Just Married' and also dated her, spoke out on his Twitter to remember his friend. "See you on the other side kid ... 2day the world lost a little piece of sunshine. My deepest condolences go out 2 Brittany's family, her husband, & her amazing mother Sharon," Kutcher wrote. I don't give a good g-damn what the coroner says, 32 year olds in this country don't just drop dead. There's nothing "natural" about it. She may have had a heart condition she didn't know about, but it's still unusual for people that young to die of a heart attack.
Messa, you're right. However, many young people die each day from cardiac arrest brought on by anorexia ... I truly hope that's not the case and certainly hope her shady husband had nothing to do with her death. Maybe she had an undetected heart defect.
i feel sad because she was a good actor
it goes to show how simple minded this country really is. anyone at any age can die from a heart attack.
yourmom... Cardiac arrest is a bit different than a heart attack:
Cardiac arrest is stoppage of effective pumping of the heart. It could be due to ventricular asystole (no electrical activity) or fibrillation (fast irregular ineffective activity). Rarely a pulseless electrical activity also mimicks cardiac arrest. Heart attack means a region of the heart is suddenly deprived of blood supply due to blockage of the artery supplying blood to the region. It is known as myocardial infarction and can sometimes lead to cardiac arrest due to electrical instability of the myocardium deprived of oxygen. But most cases of heart attack are not associated with cardiac arrest as the heart continues to pump blood by the work of the remaining heart muscle. Cardiac arrest is immediately fatal unless immediate cardiopulmonary resuscitation is started.
leroy your a tool uh uh uh douchebag
messa, I beg to differ. I was told I have a heart condition when I was 15 years old. Heart problems can strike anyone at any time. I heard in the news last week about a 14 year old that died on a soccer filed of a heart attack due to a condition no one knew about and now Texas is testing children 12 years old for heart problems and found two out of 100 have issues. Age doesn't matter at all.
She received the H1N1 vaccination. We must stop this CDC lie!
Let me tell you that these prescription meds are claiming so many young lives. When are people going to wake up.
She was not anorexic...she was vegan and if she did not fortify her body like she should, she in fact could have easily went into full cardiac arrest.
At 26, my good friend Mike passed away from cardiac arrest. He was fit, happy and not a drug or alcohol user. Yes, 26 and no drugs or any other abuse to his body.
Sometimes, there is no explanation.
Just wait and hope there was no foul play.
It's a tragic loss. I saw her in interviews on TV and she seemed genuinely sweet, down-to-earth, unaffected, and bubbly despite her glamor-girl looks. I liked her. But natural causes doesn't sound right. That's like when nothing really killed the person, they just stopped breathing, right? But, in mind even if it was heart disease, diabetes, or anorexia, that's not natural causes. It was caused by something specific; not just a case of a person's body giving out. I don't believe Brittany Murphy died of natural causes. I believe there is an explanation for her heart stopping. With most young people that this happens to, there's a cause. I hope they find it.
Messa, What medical school did you graduate from? When? Where did you do your internship? I'm just sayin'...
cocaine causes cardiac arrest
I agree! There are no "natural" causes for a 32 yr old to die... While I don't think foul play was involved at all, I do think her uber-skinny-ness had something to do with it, coupled with the diabetes... Hollywood puts so much pressure on its stars to be thin, I feel her heart gave out on her as a result... I can't imagine why her hubby does NOT want an autopsy, but I'm glad they're doing one anyway--it's best to know why her heart gave out at such a super young age... I'm sad for her family...
My friends 14 year old daughter dropped dead ..she had a congenital heart defect ( a hole in her heart. It was a time bomb waiting to go off. She never did any drugs or any other destructive things.
WHAT A SHAME. SOMETHING IS DEF. UP WITH THE HUSBAND. WHO IS THIS GUY? JUST PICKED UP TODAYS 12/21 NY POST AND NY DAILY NEWS ON EBAY, SHE IS ON BOTH COVERS
Natural causes for a diabetic, especially one with a recent history of vomiting, could include ketoacidosis and hypoglycemia. If she took her regular dose of insulin but was unable to keep anything down, she could have had a sudden drop in her glucose level, a seizure, and death -- possibly even death from aspiration if she was vomiting and had a seizure.
The term 'natural causes' is basically a technical term meaning that they have eliminated other things like murder or an accident. Of course it's not normal for a 32 year old to die of cardiac arrest but it is still considered natural vs death inflicted by an outside cause.
