Brittany Murphy's Husband Simon Monjack: Who Is He?

As the world continues to ponder the death of Brittany Murphy, many are curious as to exactly who her husband Simon Monjack is. While there's still absolutely no evidence to suggest he played a part in her death, many people and media outlets both past and present are raising a suspicious eye towards the British screenwriter.

Monjack -- who penned and produced 2006's 'Factory Girl' -- wed Murphy in 2007 in a small, private ceremony at their house that seemed to come out of nowhere. The couple never announced their engagement, and hardly ever made public appearances together.

Their nuptials came amid a swirl of controversy. According to an Us Weekly report (which has since been taken off of their Web site), Monjack -- who is British -- was on the verge of being deported because he overstayed his visa. He split from his ex-wife just months before marrying Murphy.

He also had felony warrants out for his arrest, as well as a massive lawsuit from a British investment firm demanding he pay them more than $500,000. In Virginia, Monjack was wanted for credit card theft and fraud, Us reported.

Responding to the report, Monjack denied any wrongdoing, saying: "It is a real tragedy that success, greed, envy and celebrity are the motivation for attacking my family and character."

Monjack is also now being linked to Murphy's latest departure from the movie 'The Caller,' which Brittany was let go from just two weeks before her death. According to Showbiz411's Roger Friedman, it wasn't Murphy's behavior that pushed the actress out of the film set -- it was Monjack's.

Michael Z. Gordon, producer of another Murphy's film 'Shrinking Charlotte,' tells Friedman that "Monjack came on the set inebriated ... The producers wanted to keep him away. Brittany of course defended him. And so she was let go."

Friedman continues, saying that "Monjack is not beloved in Hollywood," adding that two other movie producers "described him as a 'con man,'" with one saying he is "a dangerous guy."

"I think just this morning people are starting to ask: How does a 32-year-old woman die of a massive heart attack? What is going on here? I think certainly as questions are asked, Monjack has a lot to answer about what happened," Friedman tells PopEater exclusively.

As Monjack and Murphy arrived home from Puerto Rico following Murphy's firing, he was rushed to a hospital shortly after the plane landed. TMZ reported the cause was an asthma attack, but that "EMTs felt it could be more serious than that."

TheHollywoodGossip.com have had their eyes on Monjack for years, labeling him 'Con-Jack' and often digging into his past. In one post, they speak with an alleged ex-girlfriend of Monjack, who claims he used to brag about criminal activities. According to the (totally unconfirmed) claims, Monjack told her he killed someone and that he was involved in gun and drug smuggling.

In November 2007, Monjack's ex-wife -- British writer and TV host Simone Bienne -- took him to court over $50,000 he owed her from their 2006 divorce.

Once again, there's nothing linking Monjack to the death of Murphy, but with the death of his wife, a whole new level of scrutiny is sure to be coming for him.

Maybe if TMZ and those other media gossip groups wasn't trying to find out who Tiger was sleeping with they would have had the time to get the dirt on Brittany's husband.Seems like he was a real shady character.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Britney's family as they deal with this terrible lossand to those who have forgotten that regardless of who someone is and the contributions on the world, they lived a life. Her movies brought laughter and joy to those that watched. Truly a very sad day.

OMG...this man sounds so much like my (estranged) husband MARTIN A. CORDOVA...(hopefully my soon to be ex...) he is from Puerto Rico where drug activities and crime is rampant, and was very deeply involved in illegal drugs and illegal activities... Just like this guy...Martin is the perfect "con man"...even relying on christianity to fool others and milk them of their monies and soul...JUST like he did to me!!!!PEOPLE BEWARE OF THESE CON ARTISTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't trust him. I was immediately suspicious of him the second I learned of Brittany's death. And, why is he fearing an autopsy? What is he trying to hide. If my spouse died at the young age of 32, I would definitely want an autopsy done so I would know exactly what the cause of death was. Brittany's husband looks like a criminal. I strongly feel he had something to do with her untimely passing.

i was really saddened and shocked by the news of Brittany. she was just so young. i loved her. she was so awesome. a really wonderful actress and she had such a great voice. :'(

I don't think it's automatically "weird" that her husband doesn't want an autopsy. She was a beautiful woman and an autopsy is very intrusive and "messy". I can understand not wanting to have this beautiful young woman cut up and inspected from the inside out...that would be a pretty ugly thing to imagine about your loved one.

Sure, he could have had something to do with her death and that's why he doesn't want an autopsy...I just don't think it AUTOMATICALLY suggests guilt. Time will tell, of course...and I'm sure we'll be inundated with all the gory details and speculation!
