Congratulations to the Happy Couple! But Carrie, Sweetie, listen to me for just a minute. Sometimes things don't work out the way we plan, but no matter how bad things get... don't break up with this guy. If a woman breaks the engagement, she has to give back the ring, but if a guy breaks the engagement, the girl gets to keep the ring. So remember: If things don't work out - MAKE, oops, I mean LET him do the breaking up. But you know, I'm sure that won't happen.

If an engaged couple breaks up, the ring MUST be returned to the person who bought it. That will even hold up in a court of law. The ring is given as a "contract" and that contract is fulfilled through the wedding ceremony. If the contract is broken, the ring must be returned.
Angiebaby it depends on the state moron. If you have to give the ring back or not. Get facts straight.
Angie....Your a MORON
Way to go Carrie. Congrats. Hope you found true love.
haha Angie, I get it, you're funny and have a sense of humor, not sure why these people didn't get it....
Oh, diane. I had given up on anybody else out there having some sense! Of course it was meant to be funny. I wish these two all the best, sincerely. But any woman who wouldn't dream of a ring like that, and keeping it, even for a moment, is kidding herself. And you know what? There is nothing wrong with that!
Hannah - no it is not considered a 'contract' in all states. In some it's considered a gift. Think about it. "Here honey, you can have this ring, but it means you have to tolerate my bad, unfaithful, illegal, or even violent behavior. If you can't do that and love me for the jerk I am, then you give up the right to have this ring." So Hannah, does that sound about right to you? A case like this was even on one of those TV Judge shows, and the woman was allowed to keep the ring.
Boy your a real downer this time of year! Congratulations Carrie and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year...Keep it lite angiebaby!
LOL! I'm sure she read your post! GOLD DIGGER!
haha, i think the law only specifies that the "ring" needs to be returned.... don't think it mentions the stones in the ring... just something to think about :oD
Congrats to Carrie and Mike. May God bless you always.

Well, when we got divorced my engagement ring was considered a gift to me, and couldn't be used in the monetary add up of our belongings, it was mine in every way like he had never even bought it. Yes divorce is different but considering the way an engagement breaks up I think there are reasons when the bride to be keeps the ring (if she would want to).

This should prove to be interesting, I wonder how much she had to pay for him and the ring?
