The Story Behind Carrie Underwood and Mike Fisher, and Carrie's New $1.3M Ring

The love story between country queen Carrie Underwood and hockey star Mike Fisher is only in its initial chapters, but with the two announcing this week that they're engaged, they've gotten the interest of both the celebrity and sports world. Also making eyes pop is the fact that Carrie's ring, reportedly weighing in at 12 carats, is worth more than $1 million according to estimates made by diamond expert David Mamane. So, with all the press and bling, let's take a look at how the happy couple met, shall we?

Diamond expert David Mamane took a look at Carrie's new bling based on the above photo, and estimates that the huge rock is 12 carats, VVS1 clarity and has a color grade of F (take notes, guys about to propose). With all that taken into account, plus the side stones in addition to the main show, Carrie's new addition to the jewelry box is estimated to be worth $1.3 million. That's a lot of slapshots for Fisher, who is making $4 million this year playing center for the Ottawa Senators.

The Ottawa Citizen newspaper reports that Fisher popped the question at his house in front of his parents.

Underwood, 26, and Fisher, 29, met in 2008 at a concert when they were introduced by a mutual friend. Underwood said she was hesitant to date Fisher at first not just because hockey players have notoriously bad (or missing) teeth, but because of her touring schedule and his hockey home in Ottawa.

Fisher addressed their long-traveling union during an episode of 'The Sens Show,' saying "Obviously it's tough with our schedules to see each other ... But we always find a way to make it work." He added that Underwood is "very committed, and she works extremely hard," and that she has less days off than he does.

Carrie's 'Before He Cheats'

Though the two have kept their relationship very private -- hardly ever going out in public together -- Underwood has just recently began to express her love for Fisher. In the liner notes of her new album 'Play On,' she writes directly to her soon-to-be husband, saying: "Thank you #12 ... You are the most amazing addition to my life! You are such a wonderful person and have had such an amazing hand in the building of this album and in the growth of me as a person. I love you so much! You make my life better in every way! I thank God for you every day... xoxo, Carrie."

In November, Underwood went on 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show' and spoke openly about Fisher, saying that this was by far "the longest relationship I've had. I joke and say my dogs are the longest relationship ever." Underwood also famously dated Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo.

Underwood also recently spoke out to Self Magazine about the couple's future, and whether a country crooning and/or hockey stick swinging baby is on the way. "Not that I have a husband to have one with yet, but someday I'd like a family ... Not a big one, but not a small one either. Two kids is good, three is fine. Four? Somebody's getting something done, because we ain't having five!," Underwood told Self.

If you look at the picture, she is facing you in the picture, which makes things opposite. The ring is definitely on her left ring finger.

You're right -- and by the way, it's "misspelled" which is one of the most misspelled words in the English language.

How can one little word that is misspelled be a problem? Because, even though it's ONLY the internet, they are WRITERS and as such, should have all their facts correct, including spelling, especially words that are place names. If you allow one misspelled word, that leads to another and another. If words are misspelled, then what other facets of the story are also untrue? How can I believe what they've written when parts of the story have words that are not correct? What other parts of the story are incorrect? When I see misspelled words in a (supposedly) professionally written story, I immediately have a lower opinion of the source of that story. Duz that mayke cents to you unedumacated peepel?

Hey David. You misspelled too many words. Plus, you both are right. In a paper or book with words spelled correctly make it seem more professional. But, when you are talking to your friends on Instant Messengers; you may be to lazy to type full words. Does that make sense to you (David's way of writing:Duz that mayke cents to you)?

This is the time for Carrie and Mike to enjoy a beautiful romance as country and hokey stars. Congratulations ! But we, the fans were upset to know about Michael Jackson, Tiger Woods and Brittany. Hopefully this wood is O.K.

I wish this couple well. I hope they can make it work because it will be very hard being away from one another most of the time. I'm not talking about cheating but just that it will be very hard road.

I love Carrie, cleancut down to earth prety (girl) but when I just saw her at the awards with all those girls in black around her with garter belts in black, (touching her about in the privates) well I thought here goes another one down the ally, following the crowd.
