The Story Behind Carrie Underwood and Mike Fisher, and Carrie's New $1.3M Ring

The love story between country queen Carrie Underwood and hockey star Mike Fisher is only in its initial chapters, but with the two announcing this week that they're engaged, they've gotten the interest of both the celebrity and sports world. Also making eyes pop is the fact that Carrie's ring, reportedly weighing in at 12 carats, is worth more than $1 million according to estimates made by diamond expert David Mamane. So, with all the press and bling, let's take a look at how the happy couple met, shall we?

Diamond expert David Mamane took a look at Carrie's new bling based on the above photo, and estimates that the huge rock is 12 carats, VVS1 clarity and has a color grade of F (take notes, guys about to propose). With all that taken into account, plus the side stones in addition to the main show, Carrie's new addition to the jewelry box is estimated to be worth $1.3 million. That's a lot of slapshots for Fisher, who is making $4 million this year playing center for the Ottawa Senators.

The Ottawa Citizen newspaper reports that Fisher popped the question at his house in front of his parents.

Underwood, 26, and Fisher, 29, met in 2008 at a concert when they were introduced by a mutual friend. Underwood said she was hesitant to date Fisher at first not just because hockey players have notoriously bad (or missing) teeth, but because of her touring schedule and his hockey home in Ottawa.

Fisher addressed their long-traveling union during an episode of 'The Sens Show,' saying "Obviously it's tough with our schedules to see each other ... But we always find a way to make it work." He added that Underwood is "very committed, and she works extremely hard," and that she has less days off than he does.

Carrie's 'Before He Cheats'

Though the two have kept their relationship very private -- hardly ever going out in public together -- Underwood has just recently began to express her love for Fisher. In the liner notes of her new album 'Play On,' she writes directly to her soon-to-be husband, saying: "Thank you #12 ... You are the most amazing addition to my life! You are such a wonderful person and have had such an amazing hand in the building of this album and in the growth of me as a person. I love you so much! You make my life better in every way! I thank God for you every day... xoxo, Carrie."

In November, Underwood went on 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show' and spoke openly about Fisher, saying that this was by far "the longest relationship I've had. I joke and say my dogs are the longest relationship ever." Underwood also famously dated Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo.

Underwood also recently spoke out to Self Magazine about the couple's future, and whether a country crooning and/or hockey stick swinging baby is on the way. "Not that I have a husband to have one with yet, but someday I'd like a family ... Not a big one, but not a small one either. Two kids is good, three is fine. Four? Somebody's getting something done, because we ain't having five!," Underwood told Self.

Simon had a thing for Carrie and the Idol was a fix. Simon bought her the ring. As for the hockey player, it's just a dumb in name only marriage. and who really cares. She's nothing and never will be. Oh, yea, in the countrie's whoes with the economy, maybe they can steal some old movie star's home that got foreclosed on and they can move in along with her tacky taste and hockey puck guy

Is a ring that size really necessary? There are people who are jobless, staving and homeless and she's wearing a 1.3 million dollar ring. She should be ashamed. A ring that size doesn't prove his love any better than a smaller ring. It's merely flaunting his money. I just love these stars who go on a crusade against poverty and injustice, then they flaunt their wealth.
Obviously, this is all my opinion.

Seem like nice people but consider this. My oldest son is Carrie's age. A college educated police officer who truly lives the department motto "PROTECT and SERVE" If you ever needed to hear someone say "I've got your back" you would want it to be him. My youngest son is in medical school. Brilliant and caring he will be a superb physician.He will save lives. My daughter is fluent in Spanish and teaches English as a second language while working on her M.A.degree. None of them including the M.D. will ever be paid the kind of money Carrie or her spouse to be are paid. I know who I think provides more benefit to society . Guess it is true that money is not everything. MERRY CHRISTMAS !

Just wish Carrie would Not advertise her ring and the price if you read the columns today you will see the plight of homeless folks We will serve in a soap kitchen Christmas day for 55 folks would'nt have been nice if her hockey boyfriend had spent maybe %5,000 on the ring then fiqured where the other money could be better spent! She could go 20 miles grom her home town to find lots of folks that could use the help

I can't believe that anyone could estimate the ring based on the photo that's been shown. You have know way of telling the cut, clarity or grade from an enlarged photo that is so blurred. The only thing you can see is that it is something big.
