Randy and Evi Quaid Plead Not Guilty

Though they hoped their legal troubles were over, Randy and Evi Quaid were summoned to court Tuesday to answer felony charges of defrauding an innkeeper, the Associated Press reports. The couple skipped previous hearings without explanation after being accused of using an invalid credit card to defraud San Ysidro Ranch of more than $10,000. They plead not guilty.

In November, the Quaids' attorney Robert Sanger said the ranch had been repaid and he hoped to resolve the case. The couple were taken into custody in Texas over the weekend. The 'Independence Day' actor and his wife had forfeited a total of $40,000 in bail when they failed to appear for a hearing last week, but a judge allowed that money to stand as bail Tuesday and freed the two defendants.

Another hearing is set for March 1.
