Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler has spent decades shouldering the rock 'n' roll lifestyle, and ten years of performance injuries have taken their toll. Tyler has entered a rehab facility for pain management and an addiction to prescription painkillers, PEOPLE reports. His actress daughter Liv Tyler says, "We love him and are so proud that he is getting help to balance his pain management, not just for himself but for his family, friends and fans."Tyler's daughter adds, "My family and I are in complete support of my dad's decision to seek treatment. He is a courageous man."
Tyler, 61, suffers chronic pain as a result of numerous injuries, and will most likely require surgery on his knees and feet to correct the lingering issues. His physician, Dr. Brian McKeon, tells PEOPLE, "The balance between managing his pain and avoiding addiction is tenuous and difficult and his bravery in persevering through rigorous touring is admirable. As with many athletes, Steven put his performance first as he struggled with acute pain for years."
The rock star, who battled drug addiction throughout the '70s and '80s, released a statement about his decision to enter rehab. "With the help of my family and team of medical professionals, I am taking responsibility for the management of my pain and am eager to be back on the stage and in the recording studio with my bandmates Joe Perry, Joey Kramer, Tom Hamilton and Brad Whitford," he writes. "I love Aerosmith; I love performing as the lead singer in Aerosmith. I am grateful for all of the support and love I am receiving and am committed to getting things taken care of."
Tyler also tried rehab in May of 2008. At the time, he announced that he checked in because he "really needed a safe environment to recuperate" from painful foot surgery. Tyler later admitted that what he really needed help with an addiction to the sleep and pain medications he was taking following the surgery.

It never ceases to amaze me how much pleasure society takes in someone else's pain. It seems the race is no longer watched to see who win's , but to watch who STUMBLES!! Mr. Tyler WILL recover and WILL inspire others to reach out and accept help to get their lives back on course.

aerosmith is arguably the best american rock band of all time. they definitely dont suck. john paul george and ringo aren't in their league as a group musicians. i mean as musicianship skills go..

Anyone who thinks Tyler still cant "Rock" or has missed a step...skipped a beat. Check out " Just Feel Better" with Carlos Santana. Proves Tyler is the backbone and genius of Aerosmith! He would be a gold record star without Joe Perri. Tyler always gave Perri half the credit for the bands success. Truth is Perri will NEVER EVER be mentioned as a great guitarist. Like the song sings out..."Just Feel Better!" Steven Tyler !!

As a loyal fan for years, I admire Steven for getting the help he needs, as too many people are not willing to admit they actually have a problem. It takes courage to do it. I wish him and his family all the luck in the world. Also a very happy holiday to all, even all the haters, who so clearly need to get a life. We all shall be judged one day, by the one and only soul who has the right to do so.Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all.

You're awfully young aren't you. Actually listen to their music and you'll realize that the songs aren't interchangable at all. And Aerosmith always has had their own identifyable style. Unlike todays music where you have to be told who the artist is (there are exceptions of course) and who sample music from the 70's and 80's when Aerosmith were at their best. Not that they aren't still great.

He will be just fine. That's painful stuff he's been going through so expect the "Screamin' Demon" to be back in full force sometime in the near future. I'm really glad I got to see them at JBT a few years back.
