Garden State Italians Want 'Jersey Shore' Silenced

MTV is getting more pressure to cancel its 'Jersey Shore' reality show. The latest criticism comes from the New Jersey Italian American Legislative Caucus, which says the show promotes derogatory ethnic stereotypes and is "wildly offensive."

In a letter sent Tuesday to the president of Viacom, MTV's parent company, caucus chairman Joseph Vitale asks that the show be immediately taken off the air.

The state lawmakers also have asked advertisers to boycott the show, which focuses on eight tanned 20-somethings and their escapades in Seaside Heights, a popular New Jersey beach town.

On Wednesday, a Viacom spokesman referred a request for comment to an MTV spokesperson, who did not immediately respond. MTV has said its intention is not to stereotype or offend.

Being Italian-American I am ashamed of this show...I didn't think anything could be worse then "the Real Housewives of NJ"....I was wrong...Perhaps the "REAL" housewives of NJ should send there kids down to Seaside and do the show....I didn't think it was ever possible to smell garlic thru a TV set...I've never seen so much olive oil in the water as i have at Seaside hts...Not only should this show be taken off, anyone involved with it should go to confession...Wheres Sanatra when he's needed most???

I think what most people don't get is that this is reality. This isn't scripted or fake - this is as real as it gets. If it bothers people to see the true reality, just don't watch. This is the Jersey Shore, folks. And these are the people that hang out there.

how about making a show that gets all the stereotypical black people together??? show 'em robbing, fighting, killing and raping each other and anyone else around them...

would that be 'real' enough for you MTV? or would that be getting in the way of your plan?

this just goes to show you that 'Blacks' are NOT the only race that is stereotyped and in fact shows the blatant disrespect that 'white' people are shown everyday.

Anyone who says that 'White' people are not stereotyped are either blind or dumb (and usually a mix of both)

where's our version of the NAACP? where's our version of the crazy Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson or any of those other racists?

ANYTHING on MTV is OFFENSIVE!!! WHAT A PIECE OF GARBAGE NETWORK!!! Their so called "reality shows" have caused MORE DAMAGE TO THIS COUNTRY'S WAY OF LIFE than anything I can think of, other than the overwhelming amount of Illegal Aliens flooding this country.

MTV has never said that the show and the people on it are representative of all Italians. Obviously, there is a slice of your population that is like that, but what group or geographic area doesn't have dumbasses? We know that all Italians aren't like that. Do all black male smoke crack and steal? Are all Texans idiots like GW Bush? The answer is NO and the viewers are smart enough to know that. MTV shouldn't pull the show. They should keep it on and maybe a few other young Italians will see how phony and stupid these people are and try not to be like them. Sometimes you learn the best lessons from negative role models.

you have to be kidding me paul, the show represents jersey shore? r u out of ur mind, ive been down the jersey shore every year of my life, thts not anything like the real jersey shore. i feel ashamed to walk the same boardwalks and eat in the same resturants and drive in the same roads. the show is funny, but its not jersey shore, its a bunch of italians screwing around, just so happens to be in jersey

I have only watched about 2 minutes of the show and all I can say is how stupid it is. I was born and raised on Staten Island and I can tell you that yes there are plenty of idiots there that look and act like the ones on the show, but more that do NOT act like that. Living in NJ now, how many times do I have to hear how NJ people do not like us people from NY. They need to get with the program and realize that not everyone of the Italian descent or from NY look and act like that.

I don't watch entertainment TV but viewed this show a few minutes to get an opinion. I think its a form of prostitution.. though it is a realistic view of just another shallow, fleshly, materialistic subculture. Sadly these actors likely represent the slaves and not the builders of classical Rome. Every culture has its clowns.

Italians are not a race. Italy is a country. A country of ancient history, high fashion, and style. These Italian-Americans are nothing like real Italians. Try going there sometime and see if they match up, in any way, at all. Not even close! These Italian-Americans are a disgrace not only to their parents, themselves, and their future children, but all Americans.
