MTV is getting more pressure to cancel its 'Jersey Shore' reality show. The latest criticism comes from the New Jersey Italian American Legislative Caucus, which says the show promotes derogatory ethnic stereotypes and is "wildly offensive."
In a letter sent Tuesday to the president of Viacom, MTV's parent company, caucus chairman Joseph Vitale asks that the show be immediately taken off the air.
The state lawmakers also have asked advertisers to boycott the show, which focuses on eight tanned 20-somethings and their escapades in Seaside Heights, a popular New Jersey beach town.
On Wednesday, a Viacom spokesman referred a request for comment to an MTV spokesperson, who did not immediately respond. MTV has said its intention is not to stereotype or offend.

The one they call snookie, is she the midget of the show. Seems she stays drunk and falls all over the place. I know alot of people from NJ and they DO NOT ACT LIKE THAT. They are giving jersey a bad name. Please make them go away.

I'm Italian and think the show is hysterical. Lighten up people..let's not pull out "the Italian Card"...THAT'S more of a disgrace. It's a reality show..if you dont like it..dont watch it..everyone has a cause lately...live your life and let everyone else live theres..doesnt the government control our lives enough..now the New Jersey Italian American Legislative Caucus, has their britches in a knot..give it up..ITS A FRICKIN' REALITY SHOW..CHANGE YOUR CHANNEL AND LET THE PEOPLE WHO WANT TO WATCH IT..ENJOY IT..IN OTHER WORDS...MIND YOUR FRIGGING BUSINESS!

What i would like to know is how is this show offensive? They are not spreading liesabout people or doing anything in a negative way towards anyone. These people exist and are real. If anyone has any doubts take a trip to Long Island, Staten Island, or New Jersey and go into a club on a Friday or Saturday night and you will find hundreds of people just like these. I am sure it was no problem for MTV to cast this show at all. Hey sorry they look ridiculous and you share a nationality with them but that's life. The reason why this show is so popular is because people love to watch ridiculous people and find it amazing and entertaining that people like this actually exist. Yes not all italians act like this. I know this and so does everyone else. Just like not all italians are in the mafia. however there are groups of people out there and these groups are larger than you think that do act like this and talk like this. I know because i am from Long Island, NY and i see them every day. What is offensive is that because someone doesn't like something that they feel they have the right to demand that other people do not have the ability to be exposed to something that they may find interesting. Thank you very much but i am an intelligent person and i will make my own decisions as to what i watch and i will form my own opinions of how people are based upon my own experiences. If you find the show to be stupid then watch something else. This is not changing the way anyone thinks any more than Oprah, Dr. Phil, Cops, Family Guy or anything else on tv. Censorship is the real crime here and not some stupid show on MTV.

I have not seen this show - but I've heard enough about it. Italian-Americans everywhere have a right to be offended by it. I also believe that it should be taken off the air. We don't need another bad image for Italians. I think the "Godfather" and the "Sopranos" did enough damage to the Italian image already.

What's even worse are shows like "Hoarders", where America can watch (and laugh at) the mentally ill. Cruel, but hardly unusual, considering how indifferent most are to the suffering of others. Or even entertained by it.

The way i see it, mtv is just filming a show. these people act like this for real! i've been to jersey and have seen the typical Italian from there. for those who don't act like grease-balls, i do feel bad for. unfortunately there aren't many who don't and because of that mtv is making a great profit.

This is a class show especially where the guy threw a right cross and knocked this girl onto the floor, I can hardly wait for the next episode my advice to the detractors is to fuggedaboudit !
