Intimate Group of Family and Friends Attend Brittany Murphy Funeral

Brittany Murphy was laid to rest on Christmas Eve, with only a small group of her family and friends attending the funeral service in Los Angeles. Radar Online reports that 25 mourners attended the ceremony at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Murphy's family announced that a larger memorial would be held in the new year.

Radar reports that 'My Funny Valentine' and Murphy's own rendition of Charlie Chaplin's 'Smile' were included in the service and that some family members spoke of memories of the actress. Her husband Simon Monjack said, "She was always grateful for everything. She'd always want you to celebrate her life."

Actor Eric Balfour ('24,' 'Six Feet Under'), who once performed in a band with Murphy, was one of the pallbearers.

So sorry about Brittany. To lose her and at the holidays, what a terrible time for her family and friends. She was so young and her life seemed so unfinished, but I guess she finished what she needed to and moved on. Bless her heart.

Thank you for the movies you made in your oh-too-short career. I loved you in "Uptown Girl", "Sin City" and, of course, everyone's favorite, "Clueless". I laughed my head off watching you and Ashton in "Just Married". I'll always remember you with the fondest of memories. My heart would be broken if I had to lay to rest my beloved daughter on Christmas Eve. Nothing would ever be the same again. I most sincerely wish her family and friends some peace and gratitude that they had her for the short time she spent on this Earth. What a nightmare! May the Lord help them all through this.

What a tragedy that no one apparently ever told her of the great danger of taking a large number of prescription drugs at the same time. Because of that, we needlessly lost a charming and beautiful young actress with much untapped potential. Very sad, indeed.
