A photo of Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps smoking pot at a party made its rounds in the news this year. But PopEater readers think too much was made of the story.Over 41K voted and 37 percent chose the marijuana story as a "much ado about nothing," topping Jon and Kate Gosselin's divorce, which had 32 percent of the vote.

You're an idiot. Talk to anyone who'sever taken the pool with this guy and you'll understand he's one of the best swimmers ever. Easy to critique when you're a couch potato...
How many olympic gold medals do YOU have? He is the best swimmer on the planet--are you the best at anything????
Not for us to say,it relaxes him and it dont enhance for cheating in sports...Bigger things to talk about folks

If he was picyured with 2 beers in his hand or swigging a bottle of vodka they would have said that the athlete is just blow off steam in a manly fashion.
Since he was taking bong hits hes some kind of perriah, a bad person, a freak that breaks the law. its such BS. The president of our country has smoked pot. get over it already.
Tax it like beer and the country would be in a better place financially. Enough is enough with these silly laws.
Your talking about something taken off a bush, dried and smoked, no man is processing the crap out of it, its natural, been around a long time before there was wine or beer.
Can we just stop being stupid already?

Couldn't agree more -- Michael Phelps is, hands down, the best swimmer in the world and possibly in history. If he wants to smoke a little weed now and then, leave him alone. Abraham Lincoln, when told that his victorious general Grant was a drunk, the wise Lincoln said find out what he drinks and send a case to all my generals.
picyured ?? huh? lol
The next timr you read about drug related gang killings, or the murders in Mexico related to the drug trade please realize that our tollerance for pot is what is causing these problems. It is not a Mexican thing. It is a American drug user thing.

Bill, as long as we keep grass illegal, only the criminals will control distribution. The same is true for alcohol, when we made it illegal, only the crime syndicates controlled manufacturing and distribution. None of which contributes to the economy..I say let it be legal, tax it, control who grows, quality, distribution and then treat abusers. Most people want it legalized, let it be.
Who cares what he does,I certainly don't. He is boring and any little fish can swim faster than he does. So what!!!

Popeater voters pick it as much ado about nothing....the irony drips from the story like honey...well im off to read about Kendra's kid...whoever they are

Whoa-- can you imagine the hit he gets off those bongs

Really....who cares. People act as though "pot" is this awful drug. It enhances your thoughts and frame of mind. If you are already a bum in life... there you go. This is clearly not the case here.

Some of the most productive people I know smoke weed. Doctors do it, teachers do it, authors, scientists, & clerics do it. WTF is the big deal?? Pot is NOT a chemicalized, processed drug. It is a natural herb. Let him (Phelps) do it if it helps. Pot is nothing like cocaine, heroin, meth...so quit trying to lump it into the same category as those drugs.

I agree with you Suzen. Pot is a natural weed and not made with synthesized chemicals and shouldn't be grouped with other illegal drugs. There are more people in the country that smoke pot than you think. If pot was so bad for you, why then are there more than 13 states in the US that have legalized it for medicinal use. By the way, the majority of the pot in the US is not from Mexico or out of the country. It is being grown right here in the US in peoples homes. The gang problems and drug problems are not stemming from pot but from meth, cocaine, herroin and the likes.
so what if he smoked pot. it's not he killed 2 people and got away with it. pot should be legal any how. look at the money the government is wasting buy keeping it illegal. alcohol is legal and those who get drunk and drive then kill people, get a little bit of time behind bars. there's a guy with 18 dwi's and counting here in mn. you tell me which one is worse.

I'm all for the legalization of pot. You know the old saying..."Man made alcohol, God made weed...Who do you trust?"
