What could make 'Sherlock Holmes' and all of its bare-chested (and perhaps not-so-straight) detective work even sexier? How about the addition of Brad Pitt in the sequel? Yep, you heard it here first: Papa Pitt is set to reunite with Guy Ritchie once things get underway on the 'Holmes' sequel. Details after the jump, along with info on Martin Sheen's broken heart and Spencer Pratt's wounded ego.'Sherlock' Sequel Starring Brad Pitt
After 'Sherlock Holmes' managed to uncover more than $65 million in its opening weekend, 'Sherlock Holmes 2' is being planned with Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law already committed. But the big surprise will be the addition of Brad Pitt as Professor Moriarty.
"The director, Guy Ritchie, loves Brad," an industry source tells me. "He has worked with him before and thinks he is one of the most underrated actors working today. Guy knows that everyone thinks of as a Pitt as a pretty boy and can't wait to turn him into the world's greatest supervillain. It will definitely make the sequel a must-see."
Pitt and Ritchie worked together on 2000's 'Snatch,' in which Pitt played a mumbling, can't-understand-a-word-he-says Irish gypsy fighter. He definitely wasn't a 'pretty boy' in it, and hopefully that's exactly what Ritchie can pull out of him again.
As for Brad, an insider tells me he's "very interested in taking on the role and happy they aren't considering his kick-ass partner Angelina for the part."
Charlie Disapoints Dad Again
Poor Martin Sheen. Friends tell me the acting legend is devastated by the recent accusations and arrest of son Charlie on Christmas Day.
The distraught father who famously issued a public appeal for fans to pray for his son and reported him for a violation of his parole in 1998, resulting in his own child's arrest, is said to not only to be worried about his son but also his twin grandchildren, Bob and Max, who were born in March 2009.
"Martin wants his son to get help and be happy. He thought his son's long history of drug and violence were a thing of the past when he married Brooke. The wedding was one of the happiest days of Martin's life. What's going on now is breaking his heart," someone close to Martin tells me.
Here's hoping for a new, happier beginning for Charlie, Brooke, Bob, Max and Papa Martin in 2010.
Spencer Pratt vs 'The Situation'
Sources tell me the self-loving Spencer Pratt (one-time PopEater hater but now our BFF) from MTV reality show 'The Hills' is livid with MTV over the recent success of its new show, 'Jersey Shore.'"Spencer can feel the press moving away from him and on to the cast members of 'Jersey Shore.' He is desperate to keep his 15 minutes going. It's all he has and blames MTV for paying more attention to the new show than to his old show," laughs a TV executive.
Spencer, darling, I have been wanting to say this to you for a long, long time: "Bye, bye" ... But I can't talk now -- Al Roker is on the other line.

Loved the movie. Was looking forward to SH2 until I read of Pitts involvement.
Very tired of Brad/Angelina.

part 2 already...i guess they should milk it. do they think they are gonna bring in extra fans because of pitt? big mistake. 80% of brads movies flop so why not jump on this bandwagon....

Robert Downey, Jr. and Jude Law are awesome together--both of them are extremely talented (especially the underrated Downey) and can easily carry the sequel without the addition of Brad Pitt. I think there are far better actors who could play the evil villain, and do a much more remarkable job. But to a lot of folks these days, the wussy half of Brangelina is already a villain, so I guess it might work. But if they try to overshadow the true stars of the sequel (Downey and Law) in favor of hyping the deservedly underrated Pitt, I have to admit, I won't pay to see it. I have paid, and will pay again, to see the original...there were simply no two actors more suited to play Holmes and Watson than Robert and Jude. But I'm in no way interested in paying good money to see some director's idea of the perfect role for Brad Pitt--that man just never seemed to me to be worth more than a supporting role in any movie. Sorry, Guy--it's not even that I think he's a pretty boy...in fact, I find him most unattractive. (((shrug))) It's simply a matter of not really thinking the man has any great acting ability. Through all the media hype about Robert Downey, Jr's personal problems, though, we've always maintained (at our house) that he's one of the single greatest actors of our's, or any, generation.

DEAR GOD NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Brad Pitt can't act his way out of a wet paper sack! He would make a TERRIBLE Moriarty!
Since Professor M is suppose to be OLDER then Sherlock Holmes the OBVIOUS choice is the man who should've been Sherlock in the first place - ALAN RICKMAN!
Guy Richie needs to be smacked upside the head for even thinking of Pitt. That's just DISGUSTING!

I love Alan Rickman, but he would be stereotyped in Morarity, and Richie is working against that. I'd use someone less attractive, like Paul Giamatti or Jack Black (!)
My favorite Sherlock is Jeremy Brett, the smirking sicko with more brains than he can handle.
Thumbs up on Jeremy Brett, Jami! I had the opportunity to meet the man (and Edward Hardwicke) when I was in London 20+ yrs or so. GREAT actor, GREAT Sherlock, and a cordial, charming gentleman.
The only thing "gay" about Sherlock Holmes are the movie critics with overactive imaginations. There's nothing at all gay about the film. Why don't you quit fantasizing and watch the movie!

The assumed friction between two very intense actors, Robert Downey and Brad Pitt fits very well into the exact same type of relationship of the characters they will play.

I'm a bit disappointed to learn that Brad Pitt will star in Sherlock 2. I guess I'm one of the few people who are not die-hard fans of Brad Pitt. That being said, let's see what he'll do with the role and maybe he'll change my mind? Another thing is that I hope they still give Robert Downy Jr. top billing when they start the trailers.

To understand where Downey came from, see his father's film "Greaser's Palace" -- the original New Mexico acid western -- a madman's delight!

Brad Pitt is a gentleman, a professional, and has great respect for his co-workers on set. The on-screen fire should be GREAT!

the last one was just a joke

Pitt is not my pick, but neither Downey nor Law would have been either... I think Richie knows what he is doing. Downey is all fire, and very close to the surface, unlike the anal Holmes.. and Law is too cute. BUT IT WORKS! Likewise, Brad is an exceptionally sensitive actor stuck in a too-pretty typecast. The twisted Morarity will be a chance for him to explore his own dark insecurities, which as an actor, he no doubt has.

I think Holmes the character is probably a severely repressed gay man himself, well, more accurately not warm and open enough to be gay, but a closet queer. Conan Doyle created him based on one of his British boarding school buggerboy professors (Dangledork?), after meeting the flaming genius Oscar Wilde.
Reply
Viggo Mortensen would be a better choice for Professor Moriarty. He can pull off sinister better than Pitt. Mortensen would be more in line with Doyle's vision of the character.

As much as it would hurt me, if Brad Pitt is in the next Sherlock Holmes movie, I am NOT seeing it. It just doesn't seem fit for him. I LOOOVED the first Sherlock movie, and having Pitt star in the next one will ruin it for me.

Brad Pitt i can't see it. They need to get a Jeremy Irons or a Anthony Hopkins.
