From Angelina Jolie's maternal instincts to Madonna's desperate attempt to recapture her youth, PopEater Canada brings you the sartorial successes and big messes from the red carpets of Hollywood. This week's fashion hits and misses were culled primarily from the U.S. premieres of 'Sherlock Holmes' and 'Avatar'. Though the films are sure to be blockbusters, red-carpet style was mostly a bust, featuring tawdry get-ups, tacky accessories and too (too!) much leg.
Fashion Police: Week of December 28
Again, Chloe Sevigny has effed up. And honestly, is anyone surprised? These high-waisted cheetah harems are the stuff of nightmares-- and her cropped jacket doesn't exactly help this mess of a silhouette. I'd hate to see this getup from behind.
Robert Downey Jr., who stars as the pipe-puffing super sleuth, Sherlock Holmes, appears to have let the character influence his fashion sense-- and that's not a bad thing. He and his wife Susan--who stunned in one-shouldered burnt umber gown--were the sartorial highlights of this premier.
From the waist up, Gossip Girl Blake Lively's got everything right: soft, tousled curls; dewy make-up and an elegant bust-line. That said, the lower half of this dress is way scandalous-- and resembles a makeshift bathing suit wrap. While girl's got killer gams, we find that much see-through unnecessary.
But maybe she was just trying to get Robert Downey Jr.'s attention?
Ashley Greene is beautiful, but this creme-coloured dress is underwhelming and washes her out. Her brunette locks -- if left down -- would have added needed contrast above the waist. Greene's accessories are too matchy-matchy and the shoes have an awkward peep. Better luck next time.
Okay, we love Sigourney Weaver but this shoddy, slapdash disaster is inexcusable. While we can forgive her bowl-cut, those ill-fitting (seemingly polyester) pants do nothing for her figure; nor does that poorly placed belt. The shirt looks like it was dug out of '80s vintage reject pile: some things just shouldn't be recycled.
Double fail! Brooding Aussie Sam Worthington should have left those clunky boots in the Outback. His +1 is pretty, but why she chose to wear her high school prom dress to his big premier beats us. The sateen is tacky, and the peacock cincture is even worst. And don't get us started on that blue (blue!?!) leopard clutch. Vom.
Simply put, Leona Lewis is glowing. While the gown is a little too Beyonce-flash for our taste, there's no denying that sass and sparkle are in this season. The cut is elegant, flattering and appropriate; and we love the hot pink lips!
It looks like Alexandra Daddario got this dress from a local Urban Behaviour-- retail price? $10. Max. We don't understand the tacky leather fold in the front; or how the young starlet missed the memo on self-tanner. Girl, your legs are transparent: use it.
Brendan Fraser was perhaps aiming for military flair, but instead appalls us with this green leather jacket and un-hemmed slacks. And does anyone else notice that strange, beaded turquoise necklace? Coulda, shoulda done better Brendan-- and that goes for your movies too! (Did anyone actually see Inkheart? Didn't think so).
Sure, former swimsuit model (and actress) Cheryl Tiegs looks great for 62-years-old-- but this outfit screams confusion and a desperate attempt to cling to youth. The skirt (or dress?) reminds us of cheap, flea-market rugs. While blazers have been trendy for quite some time, there was no need to go there--especially since this one's so long and detailed. Also, Miss Tiegs could have skipped the tights-- didn't this premier go down in Cali?
