Lawyers: Sheens Want To Reconcile

Actor Charlie Sheen and his wife Brooke Mueller want to reconcile, their lawyers said Wednesday, even though she told police he put a knife to her throat and threatened to kill her less than a week ago. "They're very much in love. They want to try to work it out and want to have the best shot at doing that," Mueller's attorney, Yale Galanter, told The Associated Press. Sheen's attorney, Richard Cummins, confirmed his client wants to reconcile. Cummins filed a court motion Wednesday asking a judge to dismiss a restraining order that prevents the couple from having contact.

The 'Two and a Half Men' star was arrested on Christmas Day in Aspen, where the couple was on vacation. Mueller, 32, told police he threatened her during an argument that started when she said she wanted a divorce.

Charlie Sheen told police the couple slapped each other and that he snapped two pairs of her eyeglasses in front of her, but he denied threatening her with a knife.

He faces charges of felony menacing, domestic violence, second-degree assault and criminal mischief and is free on $8,500 bond. A hearing is scheduled for Feb. 8 in Aspen.

Galanter said Wednesday that Mueller is standing by the account she gave police, but he said she didn't understand at the time that it would lead to her husband's arrest. "Wives think the cops are going to break something up and they don't realize the husband is going to be taken to jail," Galanter said.

"I will tell you that both parties want to attempt to work this out. Whatever was said and whatever happened, I'm chalking it up as one really bad night," Galanter said.

An arrest affidavit quoted Brooke Sheen as saying her husband pinned her on a bed, held a knife to her throat and told her, "You better be in fear. If you tell anybody, I'll kill you. Your mother's money means nothing, I have ex-police I can hire who know how to get the job done and they won't leave any trace."

In an audio recording of a 911 call, a woman who identifies herself as Brooke tells the dispatcher that Sheen threatened her with a knife and added, "I thought I was gonna die for one hour."

She said at least five times during the four-minute call that she wanted to file a report. "It's happened before," she said, according to the affidavit.

Galanter said Mueller hired him "because she is a witness against her husband and she wants him to continue being her husband."

He called it "a very interesting legal conundrum.... Events occurred. She gave a sworn statement to a law enforcement officer. She wants to work on her marriage and she wants to honor her legal obligations."

Asked if she would testify against her husband, Galanter said, "It's not going to come down to that." He declined to elaborate.

Galanter also declined to comment on Sheen's statement to police that his wife abuses alcohol. According to PEOPLE, Sheen spent the last week quietly reflecting on his life. "Charlie feels awful," the friend says. "He let himself down by drinking ... [And] he wants to be with his kids."

Galanter said Mueller was still in Aspen on Wednesday with the couple's twin boys, who were born in March and that he was not concerned that social services might intervene out of concern for the children. "These kids are in probably the most loving, nurturing, wholesome, healthy environment I have ever seen," he said, describing their mother as "doting."

Social services officials in Aspen said state law forbids them from speaking publicly about a case.

Galanter said he's optimistic about the future of the couple's relationship. "They are madly in love with one another, they have beautiful babies together and there's no reason they shouldn't be able to have a long, fruitful, healthy life with one another," he said.

I feel for Brooke. Unlike what the idiots here say, she is not staying for the money, she is staying with him for the same reason every other abused wife stays with their husband. Charlie has probably isolated her from her friends and family and the only time she is allowed to be with them is if he is included and when he says they can. As a result, he and the children are the only things she knows right now and the thought of having that ripped away from her, leaving her feeling extremely isolated is too much to bear. If he's like every abuser out there, he has gone to her, begging for forgiveness, trying to justify his abuse that somehow it's her fault and if she would just love him as much as he loved her, then this wouldn't happen. Making her feel guilty and that somehow it's all her fault and so therefore, she feels that she needs to make amends. That's what an abuser does. He will always do this. A man that has gotten away with it for this long, there is no reason for him to stop now.
I know you don't know me Brooke, but please..think about this..how you are allowing your husband to treat you right now, is that the life you want for your children? They are learning right now, what is an acceptable family life and how husbands and wife's treat each other. Do you want your daughters to think, this is what a wife must endure? Do you want your sons to think, this is how I must treat my wife? You have the power to stop the cycle right now. Charlie will not change.

Cry me a bleeping river! The reason she is staying with him is because he is a rich celebrity,and she is a blackout drunk herself. Charlie Sheen is the BEST she can hope to do. No normal man would put up with her crap any more than any normal woman would put up with his.

And give the "she's staying for the kids" thing a rest. They are nothing more than accessories to make her and him look normal,and they are cared for and raised by professional nannies 24/7. They have to be because both parents are either too bombed or too busy being celebs to bother with them.

You said it, Lynn! He will not stop the abuse but, now, he will be even angrier because she called the police for protection. Next time, she may not survive an attack by him or these other people he claims to know.
