Fallout Over 'Love Guru' Theft Continues

A man who uploaded an unauthorized copy of the Mike Myers uber-bomb 'The Love Guru' the day before its 2008 release has agreed to plead guilty to a felony charge. Federal prosecutors say 31-year-old Mischa Wynhausen will admit one count of uploading an unreleased copyrighted work under an agreement filed Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles.

Jack Yates, who worked for a Burbank tape duplication company, has already served six months in federal prison for his part in the theft in May 2008, a month before its scheduled release.

Wynhausen got the copy through family members of Yates. Paramount, the studio behind 'Guru,' hired Yates' company to make clips that were to air on 'The Tonight Show With Jay Leno,' but Yates made the collosal mistake of taking an extra copy home for screening at his grandmother's birthday party.

Yates blamed his colleagues and his grandmother before pleading guilty to misdemeanor copyright infringement.

Prosecutors say they'll recommend three years of probation because Wynhausen cooperated with the investigation.

There was no clear motive in the theft and prosecutors believe no one involved profited from it. According to an affidavit, Yates brought his unauthorized copy of the movie for viewing at a birthday party for his grandmother. From there, it went to a cousin and then to Wynhausen.

'The Love Guru' grossed a paltry $32 million at the box office.
