Mariah Carey's 'Drunk' Acceptance Speech

Mariah Carey's performance in 'Precious' is good enough to win her awards, but it's her acceptance speech at the Palm Springs Film Festival last night that has people buzzing. The singer-actress accepted her award for Breakthrough Actress her role in the critically-loved film ... and that's when things got interesting. Watch Mariah's bizarre acceptance speech after the jump!

Carey made her way to the podium with 'Precious' director Lee Daniels, who picked her up off of her feet with a hug just before Carey took the microphone. "Oh my goodness!" she yelled once she made her way front-and-center. After a brief exchange, a seemingly dreary and slow-speaking Carey hugged Daniels, saying "I love you."

She continued, beginning her speech with: "I have to say.... this is .... and please forgive me because I'm a little bit..." At that point, several people in the crowd yell out "drunk," to which Carey replies "yes," which is greeted with laughs and applause all around. Modesty = honesty, so good for Mariah.

"Oh my goodness," Carey says, before launching into the rest of her acceptance speech. "Sometimes I get a little ... you know ... difficult," Carey says shortly after.

Carey wraps things up by saying: "I'm very grateful. I thank you all for listening to my little spiel, and God bless you. OK, take care." She then proceeded to forget her award on the podium, until Daniels tells her to pick it up.

It's the free booze that makes these smaller awards shows so much fun to watch, so we're applauding Mariah for this one.

Well, yes she was a little tipsy, but at least she wasn't rude or vulgar. She slurred a little, but she gave some serious props to Helen Mirren, and I love her for that. Mariah Carey is a TRUE diva.

I prefer her to be drunk than high on crack/cocaine. She is very talented, and so what she married a younger man. It's Nick Cannon, not Bobby Brown. Nick is very successful and just as talented, if not more. As long as she is happy, I am happy for her. No, she is not Hollywood skinny, but she is not hardly fat. Keep doing your thing girl!!!

I've heard Mariah Carey a couple of times and was not impressed. I just viewed the above tape and I think she was disgusting. I wonder if there are any "so called celebrities" who are dignified and classy? I think maybe Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly were the only ones I ever kneew who had class. So she was drunk...so what???? She didn't hurt anyone and she even admitted that she had too much to drink. She will probably not make that mistake again. No big deal. At a certain point in life MOST people realize that what was cute at 19, is just tacky at 35 plus! She dresses and talks like a Hoochie Momma. She's like a lot of fat girls with big boobs. They think if they let the girls hang-out every-time thier in public, nobody will notice their fat butt and thighs.
She needs to hit the gym now, before she winds up in Aretha Franklin territory. She's a self deluded DIVA who when her fans eventually realize her voice is gone and her music sounds all the same won't "age" well in the business. She'll wind up like other Pop Music divas who didn't grow as artists as they lost their youth. She may have the bling, but she's just Ghetto Fabulous on the inside/outside!
