Artie Lange Reportedly Stabbed Himself Nine Times
Artie Lange landed in the hospital after stabbing himself nine times in an apparent suicide attempt, sources told
The Post.
Lange's frantic mom called 911 Saturday morning after she entered his Hoboken apartment and found the bloodied funnyman, a law enforcement source said. Lange sustained six "hesitation wounds" and three deep plunges. A source close to Lange's management team confirmed that Howard Stern's sidekick stabbed himself. Surgeons managed to save Lange.
On his Sirius Satellite Radio show Monday, Stern vowed to keep quiet on Lange's condition but said he "wanted to vomit" after reading rumors about the comedian's fragile health.
A spokesman confirmed over the weekend that Lange, 42, is in a New Jersey hospital, but no other information has been released.
Stern didn't shy away from showering his buddy with praise."We all have our demons," Stern said on-air this week, referring to Lange's past battles with addiction.
"Artie has given this show tremendous moments of great comedy. He's a tremendous contributor. He is a good man. Don't forget how great he is."
Lange has had a history of substance abuse issues, including when he checked himself into a rehab clinic in late 2008. In 2009, Lange was busted for DUI (prescription sleeping pills) after crashing his car into Toms River in July.
According to
AOL Health, a number of factors can put someone at a higher risk for suicide in the short term, including: "an episode of depression, psychosis, or anxiety; a significant loss, such as the death of a spouse or the loss of a job, loss of social support; a personal crisis or life stress, especially one that increases a sense of isolation or leads to a loss of self-esteem; an illness or taking medication that triggers a change in mood."

While it is still unknown what caused Lange to attempt suicide, "any blow that upsets a person's life can set a vulnerable individual on a self-destructive course," the site says.

If EVER a person needed an intervention from his friends, Artie Lange does. He's got serious problems, and for years his antics have made for funny moments on Howard's radio show's and his various city tour's. Good luck to Artie. I hope you seriously get the help you need....

they should have let him go.

If I worked with Howard Stern, I'd probably stab myself too.

Toms River is a town, so I'm not sure how someone would crash into it. He got a DWI there for a fender bender. Good research.

I wish Artie the best of luck and a full recovery. It is such a shame to see him tormented as he is. He is a talent and a funny guy, his book "To Fat To Fish" was an interesting read! I can only hope he finds the right treatment and can find peace within himself. Odd though as he admires his father so much that you'd think he'd use him as an example and do his best instead of trying to join him. I wish Artie the best!!!

I miss Jackie the joke man, Lange has allways been an obnoxious ogre. On vacations Stern runs old tapes of the show, you can see they were funnier with Jackie feeding lines to Howard. If Lange listened to the old tapes he could see this and it would deepen his depression. Stern does not need a depressing, drunken, addict who is nasty to people around him.

Are you high?
Jackie sucks and he misses the show/ money!
This is a guy who's claim to fame is substance abuse issues. I have never been able to determine what it is that brings people like this to fame and riches. We constantly make the wrong people heroes. A true hero is one of our servicemen and women in the sandbox in temps ranging from 125 to 30, or a cop who takes the time to know his neighborhood and participates in it or The EMT who loves what he does and saves lives, The firefighter who works volunteer saving homes and lives until he can find a paying position. These are the people who we should honor, not an overweight obnoxious drunk who can't decide what to do with the money he has. How did we ever get so screwed up that going to rehab is some thing to be praised.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Artie Lange. Unimaginable sorrow grips the heart and mind of anyone who attempts, or succeeds, in this. People need to disassociate the act from the reality; do we punish Denzel Washington because he played a crooked cop in, "Training Day". I saw a candid interview with Artie, and from it I realized that he believes in humanity and obviously feels deeper than others would cast him to be.

It saddens me that people will always talk without knowing the facts... Howard, Robin, Gary and Fred have treated Artie like a family member and are concerned about his troubles...
Artie is the most generous, loving man you will find anywhere... He does benefits for people in need, he employs folks that need the extra cash from the show... He is a class act...
My thoughts and prayers go out to his Mom, his sister Stacy and the people involved with the Stern Show...
I can't wait for Artie's return to the best radio show in the world...
All you haters... Go F yourself and get a life...
