The Golden Globes, MTV VMAs, and The Oscars are all extravagant events where the top entertainers in the world gather together to pay respect to the best in their respective industries. All of these top-notch events are catered with the best food and drink that money can buy. And sometimes our favorite celebrities have a little too much sauce before they take the stage, thus creating some of the most shameless instances caught on film.
These precious moments add the right amount of spice to these three hour plus ceremonies and also give us something to talk about. Here is a collection of some of the best drunken celebrity award show moments.
Mariah Carey Mariah Carey is the most recent celebrity to have been caught tipsy on stage (twice in one week!) Her first incident occured at the Palm Springs Film Festival. Perhaps Mariah was feeling a bit out of her songstress element and thought it would be a good idea to get a little "loose on some Goose" before she took the stage.
Joan Rivers Joan Rivers is one of the reigning queens of comedy with a career that spans decades. Even the most seasoned of performers can sometimes rely on the bottle before taking the stage but only the great ones can turn a stupor into a grade A comedy act like Joan did at the Australian Logies Awards in 2006.
Kanye West
No one will ever forget Kanye's infamous interruption at the MTV VMAs last year. He was photographed walking around with his girlfriend Amber Rose before the ceremonies drinking straight out of a huge bottle of Hennessy. Note: Hennessy is one of the strongest Cognacs around with an alcohol content of 40% (80 proof). That fact would explain Kanye's shenanigans that set the world ablaze with disgust.
David Hasselhoff
No one has had more drunken moments caught on camera than The Hoff. The YouTube video shot by his daughter displaying a drunken David Hasselhoff writhing on the floor eating a hamburger has been viewed by millions. It is no laughing matter because Hasselhoff has checked himself into rehab several times after that. At least this clip catches him fully clothed and in a slightly more dignified light as he takes the stage to present at the MTV European Music Awards last year.
Anna Nicole Smith Anna Nicole Smith was one of a kind and so outrageous. She was not afraid to speak her mind and do anything -- no matter where she was or who she was talking to. This classic footage of her made major news headlines when she took the stage to present at the MTV VMAs.
Lily Allen Lily Allen is always making headlines. Her brightly colored hair, her interesting sense of style and her zany antics catch the attention of the public. Last year, Lily was honored at the "Women of the Year" awards hosted by Glamour Magazine in London. It was a victory of sorts for Allen to make it up to the stage to accept the award because she quite tipsy. She apologized for her behavior saying, "Sorry I am quite drunk. If I had known I was getting this award I would not have been so drunk." Of course, she also had a bit of a drunken tiff with Sir Elton John on stage at the GQ awards the year before, so it really wasn't just a one-off thing.
Julia Roberts
Even 'America's Sweetheart' can be guilty of having a little too much wine with dinner. When Julia Roberts took the stage to honor actor Tom Hanks at the Film Society of Lincoln Center in NYC in April 2009, it was quite apparent that she had consumed one too many. Julia was on a roll that night dropping several "F Bombs" during her homage to Hanks. The highlight of her speech was when Roberts gave her humble and honest opinion of Hanks' films. "I love the Cohen brothers, but the hair Tom [in 2004's 'Ladykillers'], I didn't even know what the f--k that movie was about!" Of 2004's 'The Terminal,' she cracked, "You in the airport with the accent? It was a pass for me. Airport? Were you just an immigrant lost? I didn't know. I love you, and I didn't know what to do, really." She clearly can do no wrong in Hollywood's eyes because the audience including Tom and Rita Hanks were overcome with roaring laugher.
Kevin Bishop Kevin Bishop is one of the funniest men in British comedy. In 2008, Kevin had too much to drink and decided to cause a ruckus by throwing his bottle caps at the winners during the British Comedy Award ceremony. He gained notoriety for his naughty behavior that evening and went on Soccer AM in August 2009 and stated that throwing the bottle caps was a joke and a bet that he made with the producers of the event.
