Howard Stern: Artie Lange Suicide Attempt 'Was Too Much to Bear'

'
Howard Stern Show'
Artie Lange landed in the hospital after stabbing himself nine times in an apparent suicide attempt, sources told
The Post. Though shock jock Stern vowed to keep quiet about Lange's condition during his Sirius Satellite Radio show Monday, he lifted the ban Thursday night.
"I would love to know who the scumbag is who releases that to the press, because this is a private matter," Stern said. "I don't know what to say. I work with Artie, I love Artie. Everyone has their demons, including myself, but he's wrestling with some serious stuff ... When I heard the news it was too much to bear."
Lange's frantic mom called 911 Saturday morning after she entered his Hoboken apartment and found the bloodied funnyman, a law enforcement source said. Lange sustained six "hesitation wounds" and three deep plunges. A source close to Lange's management team confirmed that Howard Stern's sidekick stabbed himself. Surgeons managed to save Lange.
After seeing extensive coverage of Lange's condition, Stern commented, "I thought we were out of the woods with that and it wouldn't come out. I was surprised and glad that Artie's situation had been kept quiet ... I'm angry about it, I'm sad about it. I don't know what to think. I'm all over the place emotionally."
He added, "I'm p-ed off the story got out there, p-ed off at the s--thead who got paid 10 bucks to talk to Page Six ...This is a family matter. I don't know what to do. I don't know what to say."
Lange has had a history of substance abuse issues, including when he checked himself into a rehab clinic in late 2008. In 2009, Lange was busted for DUI (prescription sleeping pills) after crashing his car into Toms River in July.
Regarding Lange's addictions, Stern said, "I've always tried to maintain my loyalty to Artie, and at times it's very trying, because Artie has had some tough times and people would even come to me and say, 'Its not fair, he's not showing up for work.' It's because of his great talent and my affection for him that I would [accept that] -- he had a real problem."

How sad. We wish him peace and courage in this new year. Pleas take care of yourself, you are worth it!!
Private matter? Private matter? Public persona that wants the attention when he is not killing himself? You are either one or the other....same with Howard. Howard pi**ed off....too bad. Artie I do hope you get better....don't get to listen to HS show because he is on "Serious" radio.....so now they can swear and the audience can hear everything.
Not a private matter!

You are a heartless idiot a man has a serious problem here starting with addiction and ending with suicide if his family wants to keep it private that is their business. If Howard Stern wants to be "p'd" that is his right as a friend and colleague of Artie. Stern does not just sit around and cuss on the radio by the way if you get past his shock value he is an extremely talented journalist and reporter.
man, you are so way off. Tis a very private matter.
yeah TFB - howard can talk crap about anything and anyone but whiny arte lange is off limits. what? he never trashes anyone who has "problems." and arte is nothing but a spoiled crybaby. read his book it will make you sick.
I have to wonder why Howard is so upset that the news got out about Artie Lange. This is exactly the type of story that he would have blabbed about if it had been some other radio talk show hosts co-worker. He's says it's a "private family matter" and that he is p'd off it got out. Maybe now he will think twice before he opens his mouth about other peoples "private family matters".

Here! Here! Everything is fair game to Howard except HIS personal matters!
Stern, you are such a friggin hypocrite. Glad to see you are p--off that the story got out. Oh, now you have media integrity. He's a loser and ur a loser... :)

Drug addiction is very ugly & sad. Howard is the same person who put a camera on him and laughed when Artie was popped out of his mind. Now he says he's sad that it sank to this horrible level. Howard, you can't have it both ways.

Hey Howard, give Jackie-the-Joke-Man a call. He was funnier anyway. An old Long-time listener from way back in your NBC days.

What is with Howard Stern? Does he actually believe this kind of thing could be "kept quiet"? Sorry, once you're in the public eye you are fair game (though it isn't 'fair' to the person, them's the facts of life). The media is a ferocious beast always looking for any tidbit. You play, you pay. I hope Artie gets better, but it sure looks like he's going the wrong way in life. He ought to be hospitalized for a long time.

If this had been someone else's family, Howard Stern would have jumped right on it and made fun of it. Because it's Artie, it's to be kept private? WTF??? Howard, go away sometime soon. We're getting tired of you.

Agreed. Couldn't have said it better myself.
I listen to the howard stern show on a regular basis and i have NEVER heard him make fun of someone because of a suicide attempt.
but nice try trying to make someone seem evil and disgusting....it's just too bad you couldn't even have researched your own point. Very sad how you people just assume things and post it as fact in an attempt to slander and demonize someone.
Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!! My career is successful and I can't handle it. What a huge hypocrite Howard is, he's lucky Mike Walker didn't have it as a story.
p.s. I almost killed myself after watching "Beer League"
