Jane Lynch Committed To Being 'Glee'-fully Bad

As the 'Glee' cast made a triumphant return from hiatus on Thursday there was plenty to sing about: a People's Choice Award from the night before and a lot of show momentum.

So could the show's giddy success mean a turn for nice for Sue Sylvester: The World's Most Obnoxious Cheerleading Coach?

Don't count on it.

"That was short-lived," said Golden Globe nominee Jane Lynch of the odd-spasms into niceness her character has shown. "There is a decency to Sue. But she just really enjoys being an awful person. She gets glee out of being a terrible person."

Lynch admitted during a telephone conference call that she doesn't have to look hard within herself for the character. "That kind of contemptuousness and heinous behavior is just below the surface for me," she said. "I don't have to dig deep for it.

"When I put on the tracksuit, I have license to say anything I want. It's good therapy. I can do it on the set and I don't have to do it at home."

Lynch is back on familiar turf with a number of notable animation projects. She has a part in 'Shrek 4' where she plays (surprise, surprise) an ogre. And her guest spot on 'The Cleveland Show' airs on Fox this Sunday. Lynch plays Miss Eck, a "bitter" and clearly broken-down school teacher. "Her glory days are behind her," said Lynch. "I love my character."

But there will be a new dimension for Lynch in an upcoming 'Glee' episode. She just completed a singing number for the show, her first. Although she declined to give "top secret" details, Lynch said she was thrilled with the chance to show her chops. "It's fantastic. A dream come true," said Lynch. "I love to sing." The only down side? Breaking into the dancing. "Dancing is the thing I have to work 10 times harder on than anyone else."
