You were present at the births? How cruel - yes cruel. By attending you forced the mothers' hands to give you THEIR children. Most states no longer allow this to happen for that very reason.
I am an adoptee and my husband mentioned the possibility of adopting - no way - it is traumatic for the child. But that's right YOU WANT a child so YOU will get one by any means and to heck with the heartache for the mother and child. You're not SAVING a child you are just fulfilling a WANT.
First off.. if you've ever tried to adopt a child, either domestically or Internationally you would know it's not an easy task for the average person. It takes tons of money and years of patience. People are so quick to spout off "buy American"- try buying American. you can wait years and when you're finally matched the drugged up, coke head mom changes her mind hours before you get your baby and decides to keep it and guess what...NOTHING YOU CAN DO- but get back in line and try again. After many failed attempts people try and go internationally which still has it's hard ships.
If you'd ever tried to adopt and just give a child a loving home then you'd know what an emotional ride it is.. so shut your pie holes and post somewhere else.

I was fortunate enough to adopt in the USA. I had gone to an agency and they asked me why, if I already had one child, did I want to adopt another? It really put me off trying to adopt. Then, I spoke to an acquaintance about what happened, and a couple of weeks later she told me of someone she had heard of that wanted to give up their unborn child at birth. Within 6 weeks from the time I initially spoke to her we had a beautiful newborn baby. All we had to pay were the medical/hospital bills. We had truly been blessed. I wish that everyone could be as lucky as we were, but I know that we were just in the right place at the right time.

Are you people serious? I love America....but I would never adpot here...the laws are messed up. If you are even graced with a baby to adopt here it after hundreds of months go by..you can love, care, spend thousands on that baby, bring up with the best to childhood and then when yyour baby is 4,5,6,or 7+ the biologicals will decide they made a mistake...and then they get them back....yep makes me just go get in line to adopt American kids...kids are wonderful...some laws and stupid people suck!

I'm a mother and a grandmother and I'm a few years (4) younger than Jean Smart. No one loves their grandchildren any more than I do. But after 24 hours with them I am exhausted. There is a reason God made the childbearing years what they are. When people this age adopt, or give birth some supernatural way, it's a good bet that somewhere out there, there is a younger relative who will end up raising them not because they want to, but out of duty. This child will never have loving grandparents that they will remember. It's total selfishness on the part of the adoptive parent. They aren't thinking of the child. They're thinking of themselves.

Why is it that people only want little babies especially those people who already have children. It's not as if they have not enjoyed the baby stages of a child's life. Do older children not deserve good homes too? I have a friend and her husband who adopted two little boys, ages 3 and 4, and the couple had been on the waiting list for several years. Those children had been in foster care since the youngest was 8 months old. They are very happy, well-adjusted teenagers with loving parents.

You know a child who needs a family is a child who needs a family no matter where they are from or how old they are so get over it already.

Why can't these stars adopt a child from America. There are over 70,000 children in the L.A. foster care system right now, all ages.
Why would you adopt from another country when there are so many children here in the United States who NEED HOMES AND PARENTS! Unbelievable! And, I am a mother of an adopted child from the U.S.

While it is true tht there are many children in foster care, just how many are adoptable? How many of the parents have had their rights taken away by the courts? If you indeed adopted, was it thru LA County another agency or a private adoption?
A)ALL children deserve a chance - not just American ones.
B)If you had ever actually set foot in a foreign orphanage and seen the horrific conditions many children live in, you wouldn't be so high-and-mighty about where the child's being adopted from.
That said, a woman of 58 is irresponsible for taking on an infant who will be lucky to have just 20 years with her parents when there are so many older children who also need families.

It varies from State to State, but under the foster kids program in IN, Once the parents parental rights are terminated, the child can be adopted.

How can anyone say WHY someone adopts a child.? That is like judging why every person gets pregnant. It's so personal.
Usually people who are racist and/or angry also judge and condemn others for their personal life. It's from ignorance. Small minds can be dangerous. Please try and thank God for people who love and give any child a better life.
These celebrities have the right to do what they want with their money, as we all do. Adopting any one of God's children is better than buying an extra house, diamonds, or a yacht.

I think Tom and some of the other posters are forgetting the few cases where American families adopted babies and then had to give them back to the birth parents. I would think being a celebrity adopting an American child would pose some specific issues. First of all a lot of adoptions are supposed to be anonymous. How can you keep anonymity for your adopted child if you are always in magazine pictures. Imagine being a celeb and having your adopted babies picture in a magazine and then their birth parents/family start contacting you. Not a good situation. I can understand why they would adopt foreign orphans.

Boston Blackie you are so right. My fiance is the legal guardian of a child that was taken from her parents. Her mother is an alcholic with no intention of ever quitting. Won't stick to her case schedule and the father's in jail for manufacturing drugs. These two were see as fit to continue seeing their child so the court didn't terminate their parental rights. My fiance and I would love to adopt the child and give her a sense of permanent belonging.

Also, foreign adoptions usually end up being forever. American adoptions can be risky and emotionally painful.

AS an adpotive mother of a beautiful Asian daughter...happens to be her birthday today!....I will tell you that domestic adoptions are not as easy as some of you obviously think. The wait is ridiculous and the courts WILL side with the biological parent even after several years of bonding has taken place. We adopted our daughter at age 7. With three biological children we now have an awesome family. Children are children. It doesn't matter what country they are from.Geez...get over yourseives!

My brother, a white man, and his wife, a black woman, tried to adopt a child through the Welfare system. The only children they were offered were the most handicapped, oldest children they had. They weren't even given the option of older children of color. Welfare will let you foster children for 5 years in the hope that you might get to adopt, only to let the parents waltz back in and decide they now want them. I have my granddaughter and my daughter has signed over custody, but now we have to spend money we don't have to take her dad to court so his rights are not violated. He has vowed never to give up his rights to a daughter he refuses to see, doesn't pay child support on, only because she is his. America's welfare adoption process is a joke, that is no longer funny,
