Pussycat Dolls lead singer Nicole Scherzinger and Formula One star Lewis Hamilton have split after dating for more than two years.

The 25-year-old McLaren driver and 31-year-old American said in a joint statement released Monday that they wanted to concentrate on their careers.

"Nicole Scherzinger and Lewis Hamilton can confirm that they have decided to go their separate ways," it reads. "The two of them have decided to focus fully on their careers and will remain close friends."

They had been an item since meeting at the MTV Europe Awards in Munich in November 2007. Scherzinger, a constant presence in F1's paddock since, was track side a year later when Hamilton won his first F1 title at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
