Moviefone: Tobey Maguire has outgrown the tights. The 34-year-old actor will not be returning for a fourth installment of the 'Spider-Man' superhero franchise, it has been confirmed. Joining him on the outs is director Sam Raimi. Instead, Sony and Marvel have announced that the next Spidey flick will focus on Peter Parker during his high school years and include all new cast. This new version is set to be released in summer 2012.The studio and Raimi have reportedly been clashing over the script, but the director had nothing but nice things to say in a statement of his own.

ME TOO.
Why bother seeing the movie? The Spider Man movies have been an exception to the horrible attempts at movie making these days. People are so worried about throwing in all of the special effects available to them, they forget to make an interesting story line. Raimi was capable of adding special effects and real characters that we cared about. Sony is most likely producing a giant movie flop that will be marring the end of a great series. Somethings should be just let go of while the memories are still good.

What movies have you been watching? In the first movie, the removed his real intelligence by making his web shooters part of his physiology. Oh and Mary Jane before Gwen? Don't even get me started on how the villains were brought in....
The best character in all three was J. Jonah Jameson. Nailed the casting on that one.
The second was just as bad as the first, though Otto kinda redeemed it until his 'good guy' turn in the end. No thanks, Doc Oct was a major recurring villain, not a flash in the pan. The third movie was more of the same...Sandman more of a menace than Venom??!
....yeah, the exception was Iron Man and the second iteration of Hulk.
I am sorry to hear the decision since Tobey brings the character to life, and has sensitivity with the Peter Parker character that gives him pathos and depth. Sure, anyone can be a superhero behind a mask, but when you are in plain clothes another element is needed.

This reminds me of when Warner Brothers decided to remove Burton as the director of the Batman movies. We all know how that went.... flush!

Actually....Spider-man 3 wasn't very good. It was ridiculous in a way that isn't charming. And Tobey might have been a good Peter Parker, but his Spider-man sucked. Tobey McGuire can't deliver a joke to save his life, and a quick wit is essential to Spider-Man's character. And what was this Sandman Killing Uncle Ben crap? And why did the Green Goblin look like an asinine flying snowboarder? I thought the first goblin attempt was embarrassing enough. I'm a long time Spider-man fan, I think the character is owed a better showing than what he's had. I look forward to a fresh start.

I agree with you about Spiderman 3. I found parts of it really campy - almost embarassing for Tobey when he was singing in that nightclub. Spiderman 1 & 2 were very good though. I doubt I'll even go see Spiderman 4 if Tobey isn't in the project. Maybe this character has run it's course in the movies. Why so many sequels anyway?
My kids are fans of toby and they see him as spidey. If they dont get him in 4 I wont see the movie or buy anymore toys.

Glad to hear it....the problem with the public is that they aren't the REAL fans and will accept anything that appeals to the eye, regardless of factual accuracy.
The only to STOP the crap movies, games and such is to STOP buying...it's just too bad that you're doing the right thing for the wrong reason.
Tobey was fine as Parker...sucked as Spidey. Hopefully, you'll wait and see if the new director has a good cast and script to work with and make an educated choice before randomly boycotting a better movie because it lacks the first few installment's lame actor.
Me either. i will no longer buy spiderman toys. If they will remove Toby on the castings.
I will not watch that Spiderman 4, if they will replace mcguire.
i always love Toby to be the spiderman...
Nothing else can replace him.

Why bother seeing the movie without those two? Yes, There WERE plenty of scenes without the Spider mask

definitely not going to see this movie, why go back and focus on the high school years?? what spiderman begins? rip off

Who cares if the minivan masses don't buy freaking toys? How about making a movie that the fans (who, incidentally made Spiderman famous in the first place) can enjoy? You know, like Dark Knight? F@** these people! I am SO glad they are doing a reboot!

Spiderman 3....emo Parker dancing down the street was the moment I got up and left. First time I ever left a movie. Did not plan on seeing 4 anyway.

Lets be real, everyone love Tobey as Spidey, he made the character, but age is catching up with Tobey, I say lets see a new face behind the mask, and right now the hottest young face in Hollywood these days is Taylor Lautner, he has the build to play Spiderman, and since they have indicated the 4th movie will deal more with Spiderman high school years, Taylor would be perfect for role, or at least, a look see.
