Whoopi Goldberg Defends Senator's Racial Remarks about Barack Obama

'The View' got heated when Whoopi Goldberg defended Nevada Senator Harry Reid's racial remarks about President Barack Obama. Reid was accused of saying Obama would be a good presidential candidate even though he's African American -- using a word considered outdated to describe the president. "Negro is not a bad word. There are a lot of worse things he could have said," Goldberg says. The argument between the 'View' gals gets so heated that most of Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Sherri Shepherd's comments are censored. Watch:

The heated 'View' argument stems from allegations made in a new book 'Game Change.' Authors John Heilemann and Mark Halperin claim, "He [Reid] was wowed by Obama's oratorical gifts and believed that the country was ready to embrace a black presidential candidate, especially one such as Obama -- a 'light-skinned' African American 'with no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one.'"

"Reid was convinced, in fact, that Obama's race would help him more than hurt him in a bid for the Democratic nomination," they write.

In a statement to CNN, Reid said, "I deeply regret using such a poor choice of words."

"I sincerely apologize for offending any and all Americans, especially African Americans for my improper comments. I was a proud and enthusiastic supporter of Barack Obama during the campaign and have worked as hard as I can to advance President Obama's legislative agenda," the senator said.

Reid only said "publicly" what everyone else (Black and White) in America thought at the time. Negro isn't a bad word; it's antiquated maybe. Race relations are never going to improve until we can get past getting "offended" at every honest statement. The GOP just wants to make political mileage.

This is America...that's how we roll! I'm black enough to be black...LOL! And let me clue you in quickly...we negruhs and people of color know that there was always a chance that someone white is going to slip up. Just like we slip up. We either give grace or we don't...I'm over it.

Ok so Whoopie was upset and defended Reid. Boy am I surprised. Wow I would have never expected that. Harry Reid is a clueless politician who cares nothing about the country or the taxpayers. He only wants to be elected and he knows nothing else. When I look at Harry Reid and Nancy Pulosi together, I just have to laugh. Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum. And Whoopie is right in there with the roll of toilet paper ready to wipe their butts and Obamas too.

Whoopi excuses Reid. Obama accepts Reid's apology. Big surprise! What else are they going to do? Obama and Reid need each other in the health "reform" deal. They're in bed with and stuck with each other. If Obama was videotaped eating babies, his staunch supporters would praise him for his efforts towards population control. Hypocrisy, pure and simple.

I agree with Whoopie. I don't see the big deal. I don't feel this senator has to resign either. He apologized so let's move on. There have always been disagreeable remarks about out past Presidents. I'm black and I wasn't offended at all. I have heard more harsh words than negro. I personally don't like to be called African American because not every black person is from Africa. There are dark people from all parts of the world not just Africa.

I'll guarantee they won't censor anything Whoopi says. I think Whoopi's job is just to disagree with the intelligent people on the show, mainly Elizibeth. As far as Barbra Walters, she is a has been who I wonder sometimes if she know what is going on!!!!
Or whoppi is darn sure to scream when someone stresses their disapproval of Barak Obama. I do agree with her that Negro is not a bad word. That's what they were until a few years ago when a latter generation decided they want to change the name and they became African American,. I am Scotch Irish. Why don't people call us Scotch Irish American. My neighbor is German, no one calls him German American so obviously the Negro is the only ones who thought it more appropriate to change their name. Is that surprising????
