'The View' got heated when Whoopi Goldberg defended Nevada Senator Harry Reid's racial remarks about President Barack Obama. 'The View' got heated when Whoopi Goldberg defended Nevada Senator Harry Reid's racial remarks about President Barack Obama. Reid was accused of saying Obama would be a good presidential candidate even though he's African American -- using a word considered outdated to describe the president. "Negro is not a bad word. There are a lot of worse things he could have said," Goldberg says. The argument between the 'View' gals gets so heated that most of Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Sherri Shepherd's comments are censored. Watch: The heated 'View' argument stems from allegations made in a new book 'Game Change.' Authors John Heilemann and Mark Halperin claim, "He [Reid] was wowed by Obama's oratorical gifts and believed that the country was ready to embrace a black presidential candidate, especially one such as Obama -- a 'light-skinned' African American 'with no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one.'"
"Reid was convinced, in fact, that Obama's race would help him more than hurt him in a bid for the Democratic nomination," they write.
In a statement to CNN, Reid said, "I deeply regret using such a poor choice of words."
"I sincerely apologize for offending any and all Americans, especially African Americans for my improper comments. I was a proud and enthusiastic supporter of Barack Obama during the campaign and have worked as hard as I can to advance President Obama's legislative agenda," the senator said.

What a stupid term " Republi-Klan". It was the southern white D emocrtats who opposed civil rights in the 50s and 60s. They were the ones who brought back the confederate battle emblem. Dems like Storm Thurmond from South Carolina. Gore from Tn. Yes Al's dad. Domcratic gov. from GA Lester Maddox would not allow blacks into his resteraunt. Democrat George Wallace from Alabama fought against civil rights. name one thing the rebublicans did to deserve the Klan nmae .

I'm don't believe that Whoopi would be all that foregiving if, let's say Sara Palin said those exact words.

Andi, Health care reform will be implemented. The financial markets have been stablized. The DJIA closed at 10,640 points today. A great depression has been avoided. Obama,Reid and the dems have done a great job cleaning up the mess left by Bush. Obama will win again by 10 million votes. Eat your heart out.

A liberal defending a liberal. What's new about that?! Hypocrits always deny their own foibles?!

Rocco, Were you happy with the eight years of Bush and Chaney? Tell me something. Why did McCain and Palin lose by 10 million votes? The only election more lopsided was when Goldwater lost. Republican senators who run for president have not fared to well have they?
How is that Hopey and Changey thing working out for you??

I'm a black male and I see nothing wrong with what Sen. Reid said. He was being strait forward and I respect that. Negro is on my birth Certificate. But I don't like African Americain. How about European White. I'm a Black Americain. It's the Republicans who is trying to make something out of nothing. THE REPUBLICAN CANCER SEED THAT HAS BEEN PLANTED, WE NEED TO GIVE IT A CURE. a DOSE OF REALITY AND POSTIVE THINKING.

I'm sick of BOTH parties. the two-party system just isn't working. I propose all Americans back a new revolt movement - ***VBOOO*** - VOTE the B**TARDS OUT OF OFFICE!! I'm voting Independent or Libertarian, or anything just to get some new blood in office, not beholden to special interests or R or D

Jay747, Yea we should listen to a libertian like Ron Paul, that way 60 million people can be unemployed. That's a real good idea.
For probably the only time, I agree with Dinghy Harry. If Barry was truly black and spoke ebonics, the "color-blind" liberals would have not voted for him. However, if McCain or Palin said this, the press would be going wild. Either way, Whoopi's opinion is irrelevant.

Why can you right-wing brain trusters not understand the difference between racist remarks and simply a description of what it takes for a black person to win against the lock-step voting of you red-necks.

Well Wanatach you have one part of it right. "redneck", but you left out "Republi-Klan". Had Mr Obama been a Republican noone of this would be important

Matt, Obama is doing a lot better than Bush. At least the financial markets and banking system have been stablized. The USA was headed toward a great depression under Bush.
