Celebrities Plead for Earthquake Support

Wyclef might be the most recognizable Haitian-American on the planet, but he's certainly not the only celebrity hailing from the reeling island nation. Athletes Samuel Dalembert and Pierre Garcon, rappers Tony Yayo and Pras and 'Heroes' actor Jimmy Jean-Louis also count relatives and friends among the many victims of yesterday's massive Haitian temblor. See what they're saying about the devastating tragedy in the Caribbean.

Wyclef Jean – The versatile musician and de-facto spokesman of the impoverished Caribbean nation has let loose a stream of tweets and public appearances in support of his beleaguered homeland. At about 8 a.m. Eastern Time, Wyclef tweeted:

I am on my way to the D R to get to haiti Please urge you council men governors etc we need a state of emergency for haiti

In a statement released today while in transit to his devastated homeland, Wyclef wrote:

I cannot stress enough what a human disaster this is, and idle hands will only make this tragedy worse. The over 2 million people in Port-au-Prince tonight face catastrophe alone. We must act now.

Pras Michel – Fellow Haitian-American and former-Fugee Pras has been on the PR offensive in support of Haiti since the disaster struck. His tweets have been both solemn:

Just got word from my peoples in Haiti they estimating about 100-300k people are dead !

...And light:

Someone just told me we need to do a Fugees benefit concert for people, I said we're to dysfunctional to make it happen!

Jimmy Jean-Louis – The Haitian-born 'Heroes' actor appeared on Fox News' 'Studio B' to speak of the devastation of his homeland. Before the earthquake, Haiti "was already a disaster," he said. Now it's "impossible to get through to anybody around my family. I've been trying to get in touch with my mom, my dad, cousins, my friends..."

Tony Yayo – The Haitian-American G-Unit rapper tweeted:

Its a sad day for Haiti My thoughts and prayers are with everyone and there families. Bout 2 call my family. . .

Samuel Dalembert – The 7-foot tall 76er, Philadelphia's most prominent Haitian-American, discovered his father and sister were safe after reaching them through Facebook. "There are so many other people I don't know about, relatives and friends," Dalembert told the AP. "I'm getting new information all the time. It's just really hard."

Pierre Garcon – The young wide receiver may be a bit distracted during the run-up to Saturday's big playoff game against the Baltimore Ravens. Garcon has relatives – "too many to count" – living in Haiti. According to Yahoo! Sports, many of them couldn't be reached as of Wednesday afternoon. On Tuesday Garcon tweeted:

We need the US military as soon as possible n haiti We need the 4 million Haitian that live out side of haiti to Act now, we need da world!

the blacks can help with this one. obama is going to give them a billion dollars to rebuild while california (even though they are screwed up over there) hit as well but americans are smart enough to build to withstand quakes. these famous people, all blacks, make more than enough money to help the cause. I FEEL VERY SORRY FOR ALL OF THE PEOPLE IN HAITI,I ALSO FEEL FOR THE PEOPLE IN THIS COUNTRY WHO ARE W/O HOMES, LITTERLY NO FOOD AMD TRYING TO SURVIVE IN THIS TERRIBLE WINTER. HAITI FOR YEARS HAS NOT BEEN OUR BEST FRIEND, AND IF I'M NOT TO FAR FROM BEING CORRECT ISN'T THEIR NATIONAL RELIGION-VOODOO!! There are a bunch of idiots on this post. I pray for the people of Haiti. I love President Obama for sending aid to them. God bless these people and they are people. Some whites in America are so scared. Be scared. White majority doesnt rule anymore. If you do not feel for other human beings then you are the devil. I for one will donate money to help the people of Haiti. I dont have a lot of money but I am blessed. May God help them and the racists on this post who are in need of prayer.

It was really nice of you to send money but why don't you go there too. For me, I will donate my time and money to help the people in our country first even if it includes a racist like you. Remember, when you point your racist finger at others you are pointing at yourself too. Also, it was the whites who made it possible for Obama to be president. Without white support no one gets elected. They are still the majority in country and will be so for a very long time so get over your racist attitude.
