Rihanna 'Completely Shut Down' After Chris Brown Attack

Rihanna graces the cover of this months W magazine, and talks about being assaulted by her ex-boyfriend, R&B star Chris Brown.

"At first I completely shut down. But now I feel like this happened to me so I could be a voice for young girls who are going through what I went through and don't know how to talk about it. It's not about Chris, about hurting him or sabotaging his career. I don't care about that part of it," she tells W.

The 'Umbrella' singer also talks about her new album and recording an emotional song.

Her new album: "This was a different type of record for me. It was really personal; it was for me in the most authentic way. It's like a movie in that when I was making the album, every day I was in a different mood. Sometimes I was pissed off, sometimes I was miserable, and every song brings out a different story."

Finishing 'The Last Song,' was emotional for her: "When the label finally said we had 12 hours to turn in the album, I was like, 'Okay, I have to do it.' I just drank some red wine, dimmed the lights, got in the booth and sang it."

Really? She is still going on about this? I feel she is a poor role model as she also said that "If you have not sent your boyfriend SEXY pictures on his phone, I feel sorry for him" Again, I have no idea why she would encourage anyone to make themselves an object. Objects don't have feelings, do not deserve respect and when they annoy you (or in her case start hitting) they will get a beating. She has NO idea what to say and is no VOICE for anyone. She is an idiot.

Another "You've Got To Be Kidding Me". How is it, just now she wants to be a voice? Why did she not want to be a voice when Chris was in court or to the police? Drama, Drama, Drama, they hoped to sell a lot more CD's. The public should have backed off by not buying any to send a massage. The treatment given to these "so called" stars disgusts me. If it would have been someone in your family, they would still be in jail.......

regardless of whether she hit him first or not, he had no right to hit her. he should have parked that car, got out and let her stay and argue with herself, eventually she would have stopped....he had no right

Wrong David, Never hit a woman, walk away. I was abused by ex-husband, I never hit him ever. I never swore at him either. He just liked to hit me. I divorced him. Brought my son up the same way, Never hit a woman for any reason. WALK AWAY.
Apparently Mr Brown doesn't know how to do that, and neither do you.

Laura i understand and respect what you have said i am also in agreement. However, what i think most people who have heard of or read about this story do not understand is that she is from a culture that believes it is ok to hit your man or treat him badly and he is not to retaliate. I am from the Caribbean and i know it is not as easy as you may think for a man to walk away from a caribbean woman particularly a bajan when we are mad.So i am not saying that Rihanna deserved what she got i am just saying that her act of not having anything to do with the attack is false and she knows she is lying.

WRONG LAURA....you want to hit and punch, throw stuff, pull a knife, or any of that other stuff.....you get EXACTLY what you deserve. Women have been getting away with crap for far too long....A man should never hit a woman...unless she hits him first....then, you get what you deserve....sorry if you don't agree, but there are more men that DO agree with it...we're fed up with the PC crap and the woman always being the victim....it's not always the case...and Rihanna is a perfect example of that.

Why don't YOU walk away....you act like women are too stupid to take care of things themselves...there goes that "victim" thing again.....you should have the good sense of not marrying a man that's abusive or enough sense to leave when you find out he is abusive....and women can be just as abusive and manipulative as men....so stop thinking men have a corner on the market....the don't.

David, I am a woman and I have been hit, but where was my Woman of The Year Award? I wonder if I can whine about it now, so many years later, and get everyone to climb onto my band wagon. If Rhianna REALLY wants to be a role model, she can put her clothes on and stop being an "object" and go volunteer at a shelter or something else, besides parading her half naked "victim" behind in public, wrapped in barbed wire. She now looks like a poster girl for S&M and before any little girls try to give me the smart mouth about my reply, let me tell you this...I raised five children. I used to tell my boys, "NEVER HIT A GIRL". I found out years later that this rule allowed my daughters to hurt and abuse my younger sons whenever I was not around and it ran into their adult lives and they stabbed and fought with husbands and boyfriends, un-provoked, just for the silly satisfaction of calling in the police and making up MORE stories to get attention. I have one daughter who admits to it now and is very sorry, but we women can be dangerous and big time liars. My abuse was real, but I have worked in shelters where women USE the law to get special housing, etc by lying and pretending to be abused.
Abuse is never good. I am glad that here in Minnesota they have started taking both parties to jail. Whomever threatened or hurt someone gets to go to jail, no matter the gender. We women have to own up to our participation, our ongoing pouting, pretending and playing the law has got to stop. If a claim is valid, file it. Get away and stay away. Do not have the police at your door every weekend ( like me back in the day) if you are not going to leave and stay gone, or throw him out and keep him out. No more "Oh, he apologized so now he is back".
In the 21st century, we should be smarter than we were back in the old days.
David, my hat is off to you. I have not been abused in years, but I know "the same old song" when I hear one.
Men have a side too. AND there are some men who are abused by women...can we get an organization together for that?
