Exclusive: Sarah Palin and Bristol Talk 'Surreal' Year

Sarah Palin and her daughter Bristol are doing something rare -- going front-and-center in an exclusive In Touch Weekly interview and photo spread given exclusively to PopEater, talking about the drama that has plagued the Palin family over the last year. Bristol's split from Levi Johnston and how she and Grandma Sarah have dealt with raising Bristol's son Tripp is the focus of the interview, as the politicians daughter says her headline-making split was "as bad as it gets." More exclusive details and photos after the jump!

In the revealing interview and spread, Bristol explains one of her lowest moments, following her split form Johnston.

"I was just rocking Tripp to sleep because he had been screaming for so long. I was just like, 'What am I going to do? This is as bad as it gets," she tells In Touch.

Through it all, Bristol has relied on her family, namely her mom Sarah -- you know, the one who came thisclose to being the vice president of our country. But instead of making executive decisions in the White House, Sarah has been playing grandma and comforting mother to Briston during these tough times.

"The last few years have been unreal and surreal," Sarah said to In Touch. No kidding!

For your information, Sarah's child does have Down Syndrome. The use of the words "retarded" or "retard" as slang is certainly discriminatory and extremely offensive.

The Palin family situation is so sad, in my opinion. With all they have been through and are going through, how about retreating somewhat from the public eye instead of seeking it out. It seems they prioritize publicity and money over serenity and good ole family values. If I were in their position, I'd love my family to grow up without constant media attention and scrutiny. There is no price for peace and sanity.

The Palins love to be in the public eye, they go out of there way to do so, yet they realy do nothing, they say things to stir up controversy, Sarah is a loser.

No matter what anyone thinks of the Palin's they are normal people who deserve privacy and respect just like anyone else. I am sure no person would like to be constantly vilified for every word they say and action they take. This goes beyond politics to plain mudslinging give these people a break.

People say to give them their privacy...then why in the hell are they seeking out to a magazine for a photo spread???

All they do is crave the attention...that is how they get their money now that Ms. Palin was dumb enough to resign from Governor! If she thinks that she can run in 2012 and have a chance...HaHaHaHa!!! You have got to be kidding me?!? I can only laugh at the few amounts of people who are supporting her in this...do you even know her views on any issues?? 100% doubt it!

I'm SO over seeing the Palins...all they do is beg for this attention...if they wanted privacy they could have it...so don't act like this was forced upon them!

It's funny, all the people that say they are so sick of Sarah Palin, so then why are you still talking about her? I'm sure she will continue to be in the public eye as long as people still pay attention. When was the last time anyone payed so much attention to a past VP candidate....humm.....never! We follow Palin for the same reason one slows down on the highway to rubberneck an accident. Just plain curiosity. Or in most cases sheer amazement that some find her intelligent, interesting or capable of handling anything besides media attention.

wrenogade, don't know who Heidi & Spencer are, but it seems like if everyone stopped paying such close attention to all the media crap that really has no bearing on the direction of our country, then just maybe our country will begin to turn around. But for most it seems like the issues that effect our government and policies just aren't that important.

I'm glad they're happy with their choices. I'm glad they HAD choices. Too bad Sarah wants to take away that choice for everyone else.

They have every right to pursue their dreams.
Should the Obama's retreat??

As for me, I appreciate Sarah Palin's oldest son fought for our country. Sarah chose life for her Downs baby. Bristol chose life for her baby!
Sarah made a great showing in the race with John McCain.
Sarah stands on principle. She's a great person!
