George Clooney Plans MTV Telethon for Haiti Earthquake Victims
George Clooney wants your money, and he's going to use his A-list star power to get it. The Oscar-winner is hosting a telethon to raise funds for victims of the earthquake in Haiti, Hollywood Reporter's
Roger Friedman reports.
The telethon will air across all over MTV's channels, as well as HBO, ABC, NBC and CNN, according to
E! Online.
Few other details are available, but Sting and his wife Trudy Styler are expected to appear to make their plea for support.
It is being reported that Clooney hopes to recruit 'Twilight' trio Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner to inspire kids to donate. A source close to Stewart tells
E! that the actress would be game. "She'd jump at the chance to do something to help."
Clooney joins a chorus of other celebrities and entertainment companies to urge help for survivors of the disaster:
► Tiger Woods, reportedly donating $3 million to Wyclef Jean's Yele Haiti relief fund.
► Gisele Bundchen, $1.5 million to the Red Cross.
► Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, $1 million to Doctors Without Borders.
► The Hollywood Foreign Press, the group behind the Golden Globes, $100,000 to Yele Haiti.
► Walt Disney Co., $100,000 to the Red Cross.

DON'T GET ME WRONG. I THINK PEOPLE WHO CAN SHOULD GIVE TO HELP THESE POOR PEOPLE. BUT I AM REALLY SICK AND TIRED OF ALL THESE RICH STARS ASKING POOR PEOPLE TO GIVE WHEN REALLY IF THEY ALL GAVE WHAT THEY COULD REALLY AFFORD TO GIVE,IT WOULD REALLY MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE. I THINK ALL MOVIE STARS THAT ASK ON THESE TELETHONS, SHOULD DISCLOSE JUST HOW MUCH THEY GAVE.

This statement is so true. You see the same stars always asking people to give, if all of them would get together and give themselves, they probably wouldn't have to ask us to give. I would be curious to find out how much they actually give out of their own pocket and not someone else's money that they get the credit for.
I agree with you...and throw Walmart in there, too. Didn't we do enough to bail out the banks? Sheesh.
REALLY WALT DISNEY, YOU GAVE 100,000 DOLLARS? HOW GENEROUS OF YOU. WE TOOK OUR FAMILY OF 5 A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO TO DISNEY WORLD AND SPENT AROUND 4000 DOLLARS. SURELY YOU COULD GIVE MORE!!!

You wear that beard and I am definitely going to give. Holy smokes...

First, it's easy to write a check, but those who get actively involved and give their time merit much more than someone who just signs a check which is then written off on their taxes.
Second, I hope those who are involved in this Telethon and effort will assure that this money is responsibly spent. The rampant corruption in Haiti make it highly likely that the bulk of the money raised will end up in the pockets of a few greedy profiteers. Even if food and medical supplies are sent much will end up on the black market.
I have lived in and visited too many places filled with corruption, and seen the consequences, to have much confidence that relief efforts in Haiti will amount to more than a "band-aid" solution.
Nevertheless, I salute these efforts. At least the heart is in the right place.

MTV? The viewers are probably in the ignorant/self-absorbed bracket. Plus, isn't the majority below 18? At least I hope no real adult actually watches that trashy channel. And, why spend money to get donations from people who have no money?! What a crock.

George Clooney didn't do a very good job with the 9/11 telethon, I for one was never even charged for my donation, so I ended up just giving to the Red Cross for that. Plus, who watches MTV that really has any money? The celebrities should all get together and give millions, they certainly have it. Half the people in this country don't have jobs right now.

Just another way to get money from the poor to middle class. Easy to get...just text your money away. Teens will eat that up.

I'm so sick of these rich celebrities asking us poor Americans for money! While they flaunt their wealth with inside pics of their mansions, villas, and chateus; seeing pics of their elebrate vacations to exotic locations; us poor saps struggle EVERYDAY to make ends meet. We are forced to make decisions like paying the rent or electricity and much needed medication.
While they are fincially secure for 5 lifetimes we have our own American children unable to buy a lousy school lunch!
STFU, shove your telethon, and dig into your own deep pockets and all you rich singers and actors can make a difference all on your own. Then appear on People magazine and brag about how much money you were able to donate and be the heros from America that saved the world - while we continue to struggle to survive.

Give them NOTHING we have plenty of areas in this country that need help.

This makes me so pissed! Why do stars pich in great amounts of thier own money to other countries when Katrina victims needed help here in our own country.Where were they then? ridictulous.

Charity should start at home.......I am sorry that this tragedy happened however there are just as many needy people in this country.

I would love to be involved with this concert. Are you only using A listers to perform at this telephon ? I am active with local charities, believing that charity starts at home(Yea America!)I have had a #1 dance hit and have a working Los Angeles band.My next record to be released is called GIVE, a great theme song for your event and a way to support a local artist, as well as the poor souls in Haiti !God bless the soul who gives !

I couldn't agree with Quenby more. By the way, well said. I too hope the money goes into the right hands as there is so much corruption in Haiti.

To all the haters, if this (earthquake)happened to you and your friends and family you'd all be crying for help. Also if the faces were not black I don't believe you'd be acting like this. KARMA=the way to live. Peace

IF hollyweird would collectively give away their megamillions, they could cure any problem they wanted to. Instead they think that we are sheep and will blindly follow them. That worked out real well with Obama. I wish they would just STFU. I gave my donation to the Catholic Charties because I KNOW that 100 per cent of my donation will be effectively used. God only knows where these whackjobs like Clooney will do with the money. I am sick to death of their egotiscial narrassitic belief that we will do anything they say because they are ACTORS. Give me a damn break.

BRAVO George BRAD Angelina saving the world one telethon at a time. I,d have more respect if yunz would show up with boots gloves and a shovel to help out. Quit asking John Q. Public for our nickels and dimes, While you jerks will churn out another bad movie about the haiti quake, a year from now.
