'Crazy Heart' Songwriter Has Biggest Globes Oops of the Year

Every year the Golden Globes presents at least one fantastic television screw up. 2010's winner had to be Ryan Bingham, winner of the Best Original Song. Bingham, whose haunting song 'The Weary Kind' is the theme from the critically lauded 'Crazy Heart', was acting like the "Drinking Kind" at the Globes' bar when his award was announced. He never made it on stage to accept the award.

When asked backstage by PopEater if the Instant Classic tale of bar sitting during his Big Moment was true, Bingham sheepishly admitted it was the case. " I just got up for a second, and a friend of mine was there," he told the backstage press conference. "Yeah, I blew it. I'm sorry."

Television viewers saw producer the song's co-writer T Bone Burnett accept the award, clearly not-prepared to speak. "It was pathetic," Burnett laughed. "(Bingham) had the speech all written."

On the bright side, besides a great tale for the grandkids, there was artistic irony. 'Crazy Heart' is about Bad Blake, hard-drinking country singer whose drinking leads to some poor choices. While Bingham is a long way from Bad, the fictional country legend would have been proud.

The irony is that there are many artists i know who write songs of this variety better than Bingham, all of whom are well known in their own right... was THRILLED that Bridges gave props to Stephan Bruton though ! Made my night !

I saw "Up in the Air" recently, and I think that George Clooney's character was named Ryan Bingham.

Poor Ryan. I am sure he had his speech prepared, as he is a well mannered, grateful person who wouldn't want to miss thanking anyone. He is a big enough man to admit that he made a mistake in timing and state his apologies. While Ryan is surely elated to receive this award, he is just as elated and dare I say maybe even more elated that his music has touched so many. Congratulations again and again to you and your family RYAN and the Dead Horses!!!
