Now It's Personal: Jay Leno Jokes About Dave Letterman's Marriage

Dave Letterman teed off on Jay Leno earlier this week in relation to the NBC 'Tonight' mess, and now Leno is fighting back directly at his nemesis -- only this time, it's personal instead of business. While Letterman generally kept his Leno insults showbiz-related, Leno fired off a marriage joke on Wednesday night that will surely hit close to home -- literally -- for Letterman, who last year admitted to having extramarital affairs. During his monologue, Leno admitted that "Letterman has been hammering me every night," addressing the attacks to his crowd and band leader Kevin Eubanks. Leno continued, asking Eubanks: "Hey Kev, you know the best way to get Letterman to ignore you? Marry him. He will not bother you. He won't look you in the eye."

Leno, of course, was referencing Letterman's infidelity, which he announced on his show in 2009 in order to stave off an alleged extortionist. Letterman admitted that he had sexual affairs with members of his staff while he was married.

Letterman reamed Leno earlier this week, calling his current actions -- which many view as muscling Conan O'Brien out of NBC and the 'Tonight Show' chair -- "vintage Jay." "So last night, Jay gave his state of the network speech, and he said that we should not blame Conan for what's going on. And I said to myself, 'No one is blaming Conan,'" Letterman told his crowd.

The feud between Letterman and Leno goes back decades, thanks to the two dueling for the 'Tonight Show' throne in anticipation of Johnny Carson stepping down.

the only program worth watching on late nite is craig ferguson. he is by far the funniest.

Craig Ferguson is by far the funniest man on tv. I have watched letterman since 1982. Craig is alot like dave was in the beginning. Dave is the winner for me in the contest with Jay. Jay sucked when he would substitue for Johhny. I don't like his new show and son't watch. I didn't watch his old show. I would be more likely to watch it with Conan. Jay acts like he is superior to everyone else. Dave is and always has been a regular person. I really don't care who Dave has sex with now, in the past or in the future. Be real people, these peole are entertainers not saints or role models. I think Dave has used his show to educate the audience about global warming (Al Gore) and many other current world events. He uses his show as a forum to educate when he can. I respect him for that. Hands down I will always be a Dave fan. Don't like Jay never have. He could fall off TV and I would never even notice.

I do agree, that any of these late night show hosts should be able to take it.......as they dish it out.
I just think that Jay has the best track record of being a better human being. Stay well Jay, and try to stay in Johnny Carson's foot steps.

I actually wish Jay could continue with the 10 pm show. I get to see him more often than when he's on the Tonight show.
Jay's so funny & ALWAYS makes me laugh.

As for Letterman, I've never liked him. He's so mean-spirited.

David Letterman invented mean and nasty. If you watch closely you can see his forked tongue flicking in and out through that gap in his front teeth. Why would anyone have sympathy for that character assassin?

It is about even. Letterman did the chin enhancement joke a couple of nights ago. Leno has a big chin and knows it, Letterman played with the girls and knows it. Everybody knows all of the above, where is the news?

Letterman is a total loser, he is not even funny (he is funny looking) I do not understand why anuone watches his "show" since it sucks big time! Jay Leno on the other hand is great, funny, and clearly The King when it comes to late night, Conan is pretty good too; but I like Jay more.
Going back to that idiot Letterboy, I think they should take his stinking show off the air. And the poll about Jay going to far, is a joke, I did not see any polls when Letterboy was attacking Sarah Palin's family? No one on AOL thought that was inappriate, they love it! In summation, Letterboy is a total "F" loser that does not even belong on Television! :)
