Dave Letterman teed off on Jay Leno earlier this week in relation to the NBC 'Tonight' mess, and now Leno is fighting back directly at his nemesis -- only this time, it's personal instead of business. While Letterman generally kept his Leno insults showbiz-related, Leno fired off a marriage joke on Wednesday night that will surely hit close to home -- literally -- for Letterman, who last year admitted to having extramarital affairs. Did Jay go too far? What He Said After the Jump!During his monologue, Leno admitted that "Letterman has been hammering me every night," addressing the attacks to his crowd and band leader Kevin Eubanks. Leno continued, asking Eubanks: "Hey Kev, you know the best way to get Letterman to ignore you? Marry him. He will not bother you. He won't look you in the eye."
Leno, of course, was referencing Letterman's infidelity, which he announced on his show in 2009 in order to stave off an alleged extortionist. Letterman admitted that he had sexual affairs with members of his staff while he was married.
Letterman reamed Leno earlier this week, calling his current actions -- which many view as muscling Conan O'Brien out of NBC and the 'Tonight Show' chair -- "vintage Jay." "So last night, Jay gave his state of the network speech, and he said that we should not blame Conan for what's going on. And I said to myself, 'No one is blaming Conan,'" Letterman told his crowd.
The feud between Letterman and Leno goes back decades, thanks to the two dueling for the 'Tonight Show' throne in anticipation of Johnny Carson stepping down.

You are correct -- the affairs happened before Letterman married. Leno doesn't know what he's talking about.

take them all off! Leno, Letterman, O'Brian, Fallon, even Kimbel. I always liked Craig Ferguson the best who has not let himself get caught up in this whole mess.

Here's an idea, don't watch any of them. They all suck anyway. Hasn't been one worth watching since Carson left.

Letterman wasn't married when he dated women on his staff. They were not extramarital affairs.

The gap-tooth pervert, Letterman, MADE it personal, butting in where he didn't belong. Now, the Pervert can take it up the #@# for all I care. Yip and yap, Pervert Dave, it's back into the basement of late night ratings where you belong.

This article has a serious inaccuracy that may cause the authors legal problems if not corrected. Letterman did NOT admit to infidelity: he has NOT (as yet) admitted to relations with staff WHILE MARRIED. His position has been that those relationships occurred before his marriage to Regina Lasko, also they did occur while he was in a long-term relationship with her.

Leno has been and always will be pablum for the masses. Letterman and Conan mix in everything from intelligent wit to broad farce. If you want to see something "new & fresh" on Leno in March, watch Letterman over the next several weeks and you'll see it there first.

Leno is a unfunny has been. He retired and he should have stayed retired. You don't let someone think they have a job for 5 year's. Let them move their entire staff 5,000 mile's and 7 months later take their job. The only reason Jay is saying this wasn't HIS idea because so many people are hating him right now. Conan is losing his job simply because Jay want's it back and he doesn't care who he hurt's to get it as long as no one is mad at him personally. Jay is a jerk and Jay was the one who threw the first punch at Dave about his cheating. I saw the show the night he did it. After that Letterman didn't hold back at all.

Jason, Letterman said he had affairs with some of his employees. That is plural!

Conan sucks...that's why he lost The Tonight Show...end of story!

In the beginning, God created David Letterman. That was for practice. Then he created the amoeba.

TOTALLY INCORRECT. Letterman did not publicly admit to having
"Affairs" while married.
What a HUGE fact to get wrong in a story!!
He admitted to having had sexual relations with members of his staff...Period.
Letterman later went on to explicitly make the point that these "Affairs" happened BEFORE he was married.
DO SOME FACT CHECKING...The word "affair" is not synonymous with
being married!!! Unbelievable.

The three of them are pale imitations of their mentor, Johnny Carson. When Carson retired, I did watch Leno for a while, but he turned into a liberal hack, just like Letterman. I have never watched Conan, so I won't offer an opinion.

Ahahaha.....way to go Jay...that was FUNNY....!!!
Letterman is an ugly; perverted old CREEPY NASTY MORON!!!!
And with dry-cracked lips; and that horrific gap he has;
YUCK!!!

In my wildest thoughts I never ever thought I would agree to that fat-headed Rosie O'dontlikeguys. But she said it right when she said said that Jay Leno needs to grow some balls. Leno exemplify's what is wrong with our country. Too much GREED - He failed at his 10pm slot, so lets do a back room deal and cost other people their jobs too. Leno should have just retired and let Conan have his shot. NBC should be ashamed of themselves and Leno should just climb into a hole. What a jackass - Now Leno can be right up there with Nancy Pelosi at one of the most hated people in America.

All three are vastly over-rated. They are all over paid, too.

Dave is a whiney BITC* if he should be mad at anyone it should be NBC. Get over it Dave you didn't get the tonight show gig, move on.

Leno's joke, in reference to Letterman, wasn't over the top...it was funny. Besides, Letterman's jokes about himself and his infidelity was way worse. So, if Letterman didn't like Leno's joke...too bad. Letterman shouldn't dish it out if he can't take it. As far as Conan goes... If he ratings were where they shouod be NBC wouldn't be giving him the boot for Leno. Conan may be a nice guy, but he's goofy...not funny.

Good for Jay. he should fight back. Letterman even said he enjoyed hammering Jay. Cant stand Letterman. Jay is the man and he has every right to defend him self. Dave cant get over that Jay got the tonight show over him. At least Jay loves his wife and doesnt cheat on her. Team Jay all the way.

Ya know I think it is great. Let them all battle each other. It is entertainment considering so much of the world is in the crapper today Ie: Irag, Afganistan, Pakistan, but most importantly Haiti. Now thats where all this mindless talk should go toward helping people., and think less of the late night morons and think of ways to get world peace and humanitary efforts rolling.
