Now It's Personal: Jay Leno Jokes About Dave Letterman's Marriage

Dave Letterman teed off on Jay Leno earlier this week in relation to the NBC 'Tonight' mess, and now Leno is fighting back directly at his nemesis -- only this time, it's personal instead of business. While Letterman generally kept his Leno insults showbiz-related, Leno fired off a marriage joke on Wednesday night that will surely hit close to home -- literally -- for Letterman, who last year admitted to having extramarital affairs. During his monologue, Leno admitted that "Letterman has been hammering me every night," addressing the attacks to his crowd and band leader Kevin Eubanks. Leno continued, asking Eubanks: "Hey Kev, you know the best way to get Letterman to ignore you? Marry him. He will not bother you. He won't look you in the eye."

Leno, of course, was referencing Letterman's infidelity, which he announced on his show in 2009 in order to stave off an alleged extortionist. Letterman admitted that he had sexual affairs with members of his staff while he was married.

Letterman reamed Leno earlier this week, calling his current actions -- which many view as muscling Conan O'Brien out of NBC and the 'Tonight Show' chair -- "vintage Jay." "So last night, Jay gave his state of the network speech, and he said that we should not blame Conan for what's going on. And I said to myself, 'No one is blaming Conan,'" Letterman told his crowd.

The feud between Letterman and Leno goes back decades, thanks to the two dueling for the 'Tonight Show' throne in anticipation of Johnny Carson stepping down.

Dave trew digs at Jay and his show and his backstabbing selfish behavior. JAY - the moron - dragged family into it. NO CLASS JAY. Family is off limits.

Considering that troll you're married to, you should be quiet. Everyone in LA knows she can't stand you and wishes you'd change your clothes once in a while!

Ok Jay is a douche. He is absolutely a tool. He has wormed his way into the Tonight Show twice. It's hard to fight fair with the likes of Leno he is willing to do anything and stab anybody in the back to get what he wants. He will also beg and give into and offer stuff others with scrooples wouldnt and someone at NBC likes that.

Much ado about nothing. Nothing but a bunch of 'talking heads'. Yeah, he crossed the line, but today's society seems to think that's okay. What lines? Nobody pays much attention to them and that's why we're in the messes we're in.

Oh... and if this Leno thing doesn't work out for The Tonight Show this time NBC.. Craig Ferguson is the funniest damn person on late night! Give him a call! His guests, audience and viewers at home ALL have a great time!

It was Letterman who first rolled out with the personal attacks, and Leno retaliated. Of all the late-night hosts, I have always found Letterman's humor to be the most barbed, sometimes mean-spirited. This is not to say that he is not funny; I often find him amusing. But seems a bit mean and, after all these years, has not gotten past the fact that Leno was given The Tonight Show, something which Letterman coveted. But he should place the blame on the late Johnny Carson and the then-NBC execs; it was their decision. Leno would have been foolish to turn it and say, "Oh, no. Please give it to Dave."

I absolutely cannot STAND David Letterman! SAd thing is, he wasn't always like this. I guess the fame and money hve gone straight to his head over the years. He thinks he's Gods gift to women and to prove it he tries to seduce every woman on the staff. What a man. I think they should get RID of Letterman and let Conan take over!

BOYCOTT THE TONIGHT SHOW! leno sucks. he needs to take his thumb out of his cats butt and get over himself. Conan is the best. this whole mess is just nbc wanting to dumb-down there entertainment like fox.

As a fan of Johnny Carson, I wonder why it was that Johnny stayed close friends with Letterman and had no relationship with Leno. We don't know these men personally. Carson knew both of them personally and made a clear choice. I wonder why.

Conan's ratings are now up 50%!!! He has been ON FIRE both last week and this week . . . and never been funnier!!!

The truth is that NBC didn't give Conan enough time to develop an audience . . . and with Jay Leno remaining as a 'lead in' - it was as if Jay had never 'left' the Tonight Show.

If Jay had one ounce of character - or CLASS - he would have done 'the right thing' and BOWED OUT GRACEFULLY . . . allowing Conan his time, his chance, his moment in the sun!!!

But, Jay is a selfish, classless ego maniac who is only concerned with JAY!!! How much money do you need, Jay? And how many cars???

P.S. Some of us can remember back in October, 1962 . . . when Johnny Carson took over the Tonight Show from Jack Paar. It took awhile for us to 'warm up' to Johnny; because, up till then, Johnny had only been a daytime game show host. My point is that NBC should have given Conan TIME for the public to warm up to him. Bad decision, Jeff Zucker and NBC!!!

Jay did not cross the line. Way to go pop eater. You have a story and headline about Leno's jabs at Letterman, and you can't help yourselves but to throw in jabs at the Republicans and Sarah Palin, which has nothing to do with the story. Liberal pukes suck.

Wow, I didn't know the affairs were after he got married! So, who is he to judge Jay?? At least Jay has had a long marriage with whom he still seems in love with. Letterman is not funny, his Top Ten stinks..never liked that show. Wow, and he still keeps his job, even after admitting affairs? Noone cares about that? People still watch him? What a d-bag!!!
