My heart aches as I watch tv, read the paper or while on line watching videos and/or pictures of the catastrophe in Haiti. It just saddens me that some people on here would say or even think it without saying, that the US should not help. Yes we do have homeless people here. Yes we have unemployment here. Yes we have a lot of people who need help. But seriously even the people on the streets in America have it better off than the people of Haiti. And that was before the earthquake. Seriously can you even begin to imagine how these people feel. How they hurt, physically, mentally, emotionally. There are dead people all around them, men, women, children and even babies. They don't even have homes. Their walls consist of bed sheets and linens strung up with sticks. They are just beginning to get drinkable water. In what way shape or form could anyone turn their back on those in such need of the worlds help and only think of themselves. How can you fix a sandwich or drink a glass of milk and look at these people and not want to share what you have with them. As a child in these United States, I lived in poverty. We ate powdered eggs, bean soup, potatoes in every imaginable form. My brothers and I went to bed hungry many times, but we weren't starving. My mother wore shoes with holes in them. She worked 40 to 60 hours a week so we could survive and we did. We survived and our lives eventually turned around. None of us are rich, but we do have a place to lay down at night and have food to fill us up before we go to bed. My mother always had faith and brought each of us up knowing that no matter how bad life was, that we should be thankful, because it could always be worse. Be thankful for what you have. If you could just walk a mile in their shoes (Oh that's right they don't have shoes!) maybe you could be a little less heartless about helping others in need. Yes Katrina was a disaster, yes we still need to help people that lived there. Yes we need to help our people, but let's not turn our back on the Haitians. They have done no wrong. They God willingly will find peace in the future. For those of you who are selfish, inconsiderate and just outright hateful and mean, I pray that God can open your eyes.

VERY WELL SAID!
Well said, thank you!
Thank you.
I don't understand how people can actually sit and say that we shouldn't help that country. Ok yes we have those that are jobless, hungry and could use help; but how many of those people are in that position because of their own actions. This country had no control over GOD's power, its up to us as brothers and sisters in christ to build one another up. These people have lost family members, and may not even know where their family members are. Children are left on their own to fend for themselves, the elderly are trapped and know that they may never see the likes of day again. So aren't we helping those in our own backyard? Let's try because we're putting ourselves aside and making something way more important our top priority. Just imagine if it was the U.S in their place, would you want them to say hey it's not our problem. Really people have a heart.

I agree. We must help our own house, but when there are others that need our help it is our duty as HUMANS and AMERICANS to help. That is what makes us a strong country and that is why we have so many who have given their lives for us.
All the performances where great and for a good cause but the revised song "Halo" by Beyonce, touched my heart.

Why do we have to wait for a disaster to happen to help people in need? If we knew haiti was the poorest country in the western hemisphere, why wait for pain and suffering to the highest degree. The lord says help thy neighbor, He doesn't say, lets wait for a disaster then help. God bless you all for giving. Ionly wish I could do more.

I am so proud of everyone who participated in the Haiti relief Telethon, whether they sang or answered phones. I especially liked Justine Timberlake and the other guy(Hallelujah). Very inspirational. Maybe they will cut an album. Christina was excellent also. Special kudos to Mary J. Blige. Please disregard all of those mean statments being made by the "haters". They act like children.

We do have many groups and people who help those in this country. Aiding other countries in times of need are one of the things that makes America so great. We are a nation that is there to help. Remember that someday we to may need a helping hand. Please don't be bitter and not want to care about all people regardless of where they live.
