After closing out his final 'Tonight Show', Conan O'Brien traded in his suit and tie for jeans and a leather jacket as he kept the night going at an after party for his 200-plus staff and celebrity guests.
"It was definitely a laid-back Conan after the show," a party-goer, who referred to the festivities as an Irish wake, told PopEater.
The atmosphere was upbeat with staff members wearing "Team Conan" t-shirts while interns wore ones saying "I'm with CoCo." Rewarding his team's loyalty, O'Brien made sure the evening's post-show shindig was well stocked.
More Details of Conan's Farewell Party After the Jump!
Along with tons of Jameson Irish whiskey at the ready, guests (which included Will Ferrell, sidekick Andy Richter and 30 Rock's Jack McBrayer) downed "loads of Ben + Jerry's ice cream and sushi."
While the ginger-haired funnyman spent time with Ferrell and his other celebrity pals, he focused on the people who had worked with him and for him daily.
"He was hanging with Ferrell for awhile but was mostly taking pictures with every single crew member," the partygoer added.
So exactly how much Jameson flowed at the 'Tonight Show' farewell? The partygoer told PopEater, "the guests drained magnums!" Now that is a proper Irish send-off.
I guess NBC is all about money, but Conan O'Brian is REAL. I can believe that Jay Leno would go back on his word, which is why we are not going to watch....
You are with your friends, Conan. Hi, howsit goin'? I miss the old days when...the red hot chile peppers threw u down on your head, and you jumped right up like nothing happened! I knew u were tough.
I'm loyal, and smart, and REALY want to get out of Georgia! I wrote 2 books and burned them! hardest thing I ever did... I want to write 4 u...
What a sassed-out closing, Conan! No wonder all the liquor stores in the Northeast part of the country were out of Jameson Irish Whiskey! You have MILLIONS of supporters who will be anxiously awaiting your next move (in 7 months - unless you decide to do the 'nudes!'
Carson was the tonight show, I watched every night. He retired, I watched Letterman. Conan was the tonight show, I watched every night, he was pushed out by a retard. I'll watch Letterman.
Conan's tonight show was a fresh, insightful, edgy, balls to the wall laugh riot! Some of the best late night TV I have ever seen. Where is NBC headed now? Backwards...literally!
Ironically, Leno doesn't even realize the irreparable harm that he's done to himself and NBC and the Tonight Show legacy. It was low class and dishonest on his part and people will remeber that. He will lose a considerable amount of audience when he returns and won't be able to escape the ridicule of others besides Letterman. I'm sure he has already lost the respect of many celebrities who have too many other venues at which to hawk their wares. The winner in this battle will be FOX when they hire Conan and the losers will be Leno, and unfortunately maybe Kimmel in and already too crowded late night field. Letterman will always hold his own...but I think he will retire withing the next 2 to 5 years anyway...in 2012 he would have had his own shows (3 since 1982) for 30 years (The same milestone that Carson had with the Tonight Show). No matter though, Letterman is now without question, the historic and iconic name concerning late night television. Maybe he never got the Tonight Show the way he would have liked...but he certainly has the most prominent decendancy of it and stands alone in that regard.
For you pinheads that DON'T CARE ABOUT FACTS here are a few: Leno is an icon. He has worked for years, both on television and STILL does nightclub/casino acts; Conehead doesn't, he's content to simply do one thing. LENO WANTED TO LEAVE BUT NBC DID NOT WANT HIM TO LEAVE SO THEY KEPT HIM THERE AND GAVE HIM THE 10:00 CLOCK SLOT BUT DID NOT ALLOW BOTH LENO AND CONEHEAD TO HAVE THE AMPLE AMOUNT OF TIME TO KEEP TRYING TO BOOST THEIR RATINGS (YET the asses WILL keep pumping good money, after bad, on that MAJOR WASTE OF TIME -- Saturday Night Live!!!)so the NBC morons -- WHO ARE NOTHING BUT STINGY AND CONTROLLING -- GOT CAUGHT WITH TWO IMMENSE EGOS and a MAJOR PROBLEM!!! IF Conehead was patient he would have got the 11:35 slot back because Jay would NOT have allowed himself to be demoted to a mere half hour show and Conehead gets an hour. CONEHEAD BLEW IT BY BEING TOO EGO DRIVEN AND NOT BEING PATIENT!! Leno even said, by alluding to it several times, that FOX would have been a "place to go" but NBC would NOT let him out of his contract. SORRY, it was sad to see the "end" of Conehead's reign but still I don't feel sorry for anyone who gets 30 million dollars to sit on his ass until September and then show up on some other station/venue. Personally I hope it's a cable show, then we will see just who is/are the REAL FANS AND WHO HAS JUST LIP SERVICE!!! NBC -- you can NOT have two large egos and only one time slot -- MORONS!!! You caused your own problems, not Leno, not Conehead, it was you pinheads!!!
It is absurd that you all are blaming Leno for this. To leave he would have had to agree to not work on ANY network. Conan was the one who wouldn't agree to a time change. I am disappointed Leni didn't walk, also. NBC should have taken the bullet. But keep in mind, Conan is walking away with 35 milllion dollars. Many Americans lost their job and got nothing. Still Leni isn't the bad guy. I will watch him.
While I'm not a big fan of Jimmy Fallon, I happened to see the beginning of his show tonight. It was VERY nice of him to open by acknowledging Conan. Even if it was, technically, a funny sketch.
Conan getting off the sinking ship that is nbc is the best thing that could happen to him. He is mega-talented. A year from now he will be going strong and cranking out the laughs once again.
Oh, I am just so glad that his groanings about not wanting a 12 o'clock slot are OVER!!! At least we can hope. Well, he's a multi-millionaire now...I'd be pretty happy!!
