Who Is That Supposed to Be? Celebrity Wax Figures Gone Wrong
Yesterday, Heidi Klum unveiled her wax figure at the Madame Tussaud's in Berlin. And when we saw what it looked like, we thought the sculptors confused her with a Kate Bosworth blow-up doll for a second. (However, Ms. Klum herself doesn't agree. "
It is a pretty good likeness, but it's pretty strange to look yourself in the eyes," she said at the unveiling.)
But Heidi's not the only one whose wax likeness isn't really that much of a likeness. Take a look at celebrities who don't resemble their wax models.
Julia Roberts
The fake 'Pretty Woman' reminds us of Katie Couric -- not the Oscar -winning actress.
Justin Timberlake
Maybe Timberlake was unavailable to pose for his own figure, so they asked David Beckham to fill in?
Madonna
The body and the clothes are right ... but the face? Not so much.
Jennifer Lopez
If by Jennifer Lopez, you mean the love child of Beyonce and Jennifer Love Hewitt, then yes, that's what this is.
Jessica Alba
This is supposed to be the 'Fantastic Four' star, but it looks more like a pissed off Heidi Montag, post first plastic surgery.
Will Smith
There are no words.
Orlando Bloom
It's as if they started making a wax Johnny Depp, then realized they were supposed to be doing Bloom.
Nicole Kidman
We're not sure when Kidman turned into Britney Spears.
Antonio Banderas
Putting this wax figure in a Zorro outfit will not make up for the fact that Banderas is unrecognizable.

They all looked pretty good to me and are certainly recognizable but none of them were perfect. I suspect they never will be acceptable to everyone unless the museum changes procedures to start making facial castings in plaster first and then poured wax or plaster into the resulting molds.

Is the author blind? I looked at the wax figures first, and the only 2 that I couldn't guess were Madonna and Orlando Bloom (who I thought was Johnny Depp as well). I recognized Will Smith- as well as the poor depiction of his actual skin color- and Justin Timberlake (with gray hair?). However, most of these look good, and the Madame Toussaud's figures look dead on to me (Heidi Klum & Nicole Kidman... that I know of).
Plus, I seriously doubt the author has ever been to/read about Madame Toussaud's. If she had been, she would know that they make head-to-toe molds of the model. So the wax figure is an exact replica of their face & body, not something someone sculpted. Also, the model is the one who chooses the hair, makeup, etc. based on their style *at the time*. We all know how often they dye their hair, gain weight, or get botox to numb their faces.
I can't speak for the other wax museums, but I've been to MT's in NYC and learned about how they go through the process of making the wax figures.

I've been to Madame Toussaud's in London and the figures there are dead ringers--nothing like these barely recognizable figures. Maybe the new generation of wax sculptors are not as talented.
Madonna has a crutch? I thought I saw a moat to a dungeon!

I think they are dead ringers for the stars!!

Denise (original blogger), if you think you can make a better wax figure, by all means, go for it; otherwise, don't criticize too harshly.

Madonna looks like Uma Thurman.
