Call the lawyers! A singer that goes by the name of Phoenix Phenom and her fellow co-writer are suing the Black Eyed Peas, claiming that the group stole a song they submitted to Interscope records and that it was later turned into the Peas' number one hit 'Boom Boom Pow' illegally. While there's no way to verify when the tune was submitted to Interscope or if the Peas ever got their hands on it, let's go ahead and compare the two songs, shall we? Listen/compare below! In a statement published by HipHopWired.com (via Perez), a lawyer for Phoenix Phenom says: "My clients submitted their copyrighted song 'Boom Dynamite' to Interscope Records after Interscope had shown interest in some of their music, and the Black Eyed Peas later copied the song when they wrote "Boom Boom Pow." A simple listening of the two songs will tell you that the songs are substantially similar, and that the hooks of the two songs are virtually identical in rhythm and lyrics."
The Black Eyed Peas' key songwriter, Will.I.Am, has been accused of musical plagiarism several times in the past. Will and the entire Peas clan was sued in September of 2009 on similar ground, when the group Grounded Music claimed that Fergie's song 'Voodoo Doll' was a "substantially and strikingly similar" to their tune 'Waterfall.'
Earlier in 2008, they faced similar legal claims when the group Freeland accused them of stealing their song 'Mancry' for the Peas tune 'Party All the Time.'

So true!
I agree. "Boom Boom Pow" is a dreadful song, like most music nowadays...
How many times has Will I Am and the peas been accused of ripping other people's work off? He is a Repeat Infringer and that is why I don't have any peas CDs on MP3s on my player. I do know that he was accused of ripping somebody off on one of the songs on a solo album that he was working on with Fergie. Their record label needs to thoroughly check their work before publishing it.

What I don't understand is why it took so long for this group to file a lawsuit on the black eye peas. They should have blocked it from the start.

Reply to Joan - the group waited to file their suit so that the record could accrue money so that they would have more to obtain if they won their suit. Remember, Carole King sued George Harrison and won when he recorded "My Sweet Lord" which was a rip off of "He's So Fine". She waited until the song sold over a million dollars and then went to court.
What I can't understand is how this piece of crap song became a hit. I mean, can you really steal chit and be prosecuted?

sue there ass . large acts and labels think they can just do whatever they want . the black eyed peas def heard the other recording and tried to change it enough so they would avoid copyright infringement

I don't know whats wrong with everyone but these songs do not sound alike. Maybe if Will.I.Am DID steal something from them.. maybe it was the initial idea for their song. The only thing similar is that they say BOOM in it. I mean seriously. Like others said here, why the crap did it take these people SO DAMN long to sue the BEP? This song is over a year old and it was highly publicized. So its not like that other group didn't hear it until now. I like both of the songs... the other group needs to back it down because in my opinion, BEP didnt steal anything from them but using the word BOOM in their song. It's the other groups fault for not doing anything when the SONG FIRST CAME OUT. they are just looking to make some money since they didnt make it.

I agree!
They both have a female rapping and both say the word boom. That is pretty much it. Sorry, guys, I think you are out of luck.

I'm obviously not getting this. These songs have one single similarity and that's the word Boom. Talk about trying to get your 15 mins of fame whatever it takes! Shame on Phoenix Phenom's

Please this is just another person trying to get famous off of the BEPs she sounds awful and the video is Very low quality the obvious reason that it stayed at interscope, and fizzled, The peas are the best b please
