The search continues for 'American Idol' contestant Angela Martin's mother, who mysteriously disappeared in a south Chicago suburb on Dec. 26. "We haven't heard anything yet," Martin tells PEOPLE.
"The detectives have been calling my sisters and myself, and just keeping us informed. They say they are still just looking and asking us more questions, if we know anything but her friends are calling us, so it's hard."
As her quest to be the next American Idol continues, Martin isn't sure if the trip to Hollywood is such a blessing -- considering the three time ticket holder has been stuck with tragedy every time she's advanced in the competition. When Martin first auditioned in 2007 and made it to Hollywood, she learned that her father had been murdered; shortly thereafter, she was cut in the second round. In 2008, she auditioned again and advanced to the Top 50. But she had to leave the competition early to go to court to settle a traffic ticket.
The tragedy involving her mother unfolded the day after a family Christmas dinner when her mother, Viola Brown Martin, failed to show up at her older sister's house. After the family filed a missing person's report, the Glenwood, Ill., police found Viola's car on New Year's Eve in an unfamiliar neighborhood. Investigators were "not 100 percent sure" that she did not go off on her own accord, reports RadarOnline.
The police have since released a photo and Marin describes her mom as 5-ft. tall, about 165 lbs., light-skinned and with blond and brown hair.
On January 19, America watched as Martin was sent through to Hollywood after her rendition of 'Just Fine 'by Mary J. Blige.
"It's people like you, singers like you, which is why I like doing this show," Simon Cowell told her, as the judges unanimously passed her though. "You're really talented, you need a break, and you're just good."
Martin recalled how excited her mother was for her. "She was there at my audition in Chicago. She was the one holding my daughter. It was a highlight for her because this was my third time and she was really happy to be a part of it," Martin recalled.
While she is in Hollywood, her sisters and family continue the search in Chicago and also care for Angela's 10-year-old daughter, who has Rett Syndrome, a developmental disorder.
Don't think she's the next American Idol but she does have a nice voice, I hope she stays for a long time. Good Luck to youI will pray that you find your mother safe and sound.
Sorry, if my Mom ended up missing, I wouldn't be in Hollywood. I'd be in the city she disappeared from searching high & low, asking lotsa people lotsa questions.
Oh shut up, Jake! She can't find her Mom anymore than the police can and life goes on. She has to feed herself and her daughter so stop criticizing her. I hope she wins!
jake she has a ten year old daughter. No matter how much you love your parents you need to provide as good a life for your child as possible, and this affords her an opportunity that she may never get again. She and her family are doing the right thing, i am sure you are not in her position and therefore should not judge her as if she was in the same situation you are.
For the dimwits who don't understand, this was taped before her mom disappeared. She was in the video when Angela came out with her ticket. I don't have hope that her mom is still alive and i won't judge her for deciding to go ahead and try to succeed with her career. I only wish her and her daughter the best in what has to be a very trying time for this girl.
From what I remember the show saying... She is actually 28 so that would mean she had her daughter when she was 18. Not too young and this is her last chance to even be on the show so I dont blame her for staying. The detectives are apparently doing all they need to in order to find her Mom and her family must support her decision to stay or else they wouldn't be helping her either. Who knows. I hope everything turns out okay for her and that they find her Mom. :)
Really, 18 isn't to young to have a child? Check the statistics, having a child that young cuts a womans chances of living above the poverty line to 'slim to none'. You'd have to do something amazing, something one in a million. Like win American Idol (truly, good luck to her), or win the lotto. Otherwise you'll be a burden on your family (or better yet, Uncle Sam) most of your life...
Dave at least she was an adult. There are girls who have their babies when they are 15 and 16, sometimes even YOUNGER and even then, I know teen mom's who were able to raise their children just fine. My cousin just had her son and she is 18, NOT on welfare, and is looking forward to getting a job as soon as he is a little older. She HASN'T dropped out of high school, she isn't a 'burden' to her family because she never asks for help, we are willing to offer if she needs it. Yes, it would be harder if she were a single mom but thankfully she's not. Even if she were, I have NO doubt in my mind that she would be an amazing mom and difinitely not a burden to anyone.
Dave, my daughter had a child at the age of 18 and is doing pretty good for herslef I might say. She's not living on goverment asssistance, and is in no way a burden on the family! She makes her own way. Oh, and did I mention....she was in college when she got pregnant AND he had a severe medical problem AND his Blood Pressure was so High, that it would have killed even YOU AND oh wait...ya wanna know the kicker of all this???.....She made President's list EVERY SEMESTER!!! AND graduated with HONORS!! and even then, paid her own child care and bought her own food, and was in no way a 'burden' on the family and/or you!! Yeah, she had a grant AND got on the 'Tops' program, which is a grant for the state I live in, because she made AWESOME grades and pushed herself throughout her school years. The ONLY time she asked me to watch him was when she studied for finals, and as his Grandmother I was more than happy to do it!! I actually had to call her and ask her if I could watch him, because she didn't want to 'burden' me!! So Stop 'Stigmatizing' all young mothers out there and OPEN your eyes to the real world!! Hopefully, IF you have a daughter she will not get pregnant untill she's 30, so she won't feel the 'hatred' that her own father would have on her!!
Dave I had my son when I was 19. I am not, nor have I ever been a burden to you or anyone else. I own my house, have a car, and I have a career. You are ignorant to think that because a woman is young when she has a child, she will be on welfare. I'm not at or close to the poverty level. I was in college when I got pregnant and had my son and I finished my degree and was on the dean's list every quarter. Graduated college and began my career. And what is it that you do?
I am sure with all of the set backs this woman has been through, her mother would NOT want her to walk away from this last chance at American Idol. She has been dealt a deck of bad cards, hopefully they will find her mother alive & well, but if she is dead, the daughter still has to go on living. This is the best way to "make momma proud" & to take care of her disabled daughter, remember she too is a mom & has to support her child. I wish her the best of luck & send my prayers to her!
The reason there was the "Dark Period" of humans enslaved by Devils, Jim Crow, human rights, civil rights, racism, discrimination, and political cowards. Is because of people like HAMILTON. Who's only purpose on this earth is to hate others because he hates himself. And if he dosen't hate others he will self destruct and jump off a bridge. He don't know Ms.Martin, because I bet she wouldn't socialize with a loser like him. He knows nothing of her besides she has talent, but yet he continues to spew the same ignorance from the times I mentioned above. Its a publicity stunt!! Her mom is hiding somewhere so she can get public sympathy and boost her public votes.
This poor girl has already gone through so much, with the murder of her dad, and having to raise a handicap daughter. I pray they find her mom.
So far she is one of my favorites.

Hi,
I am totally with you Jake.. I would be looking high and low.
No business being on the show.
Oh shut up, Jake! She can't find her Mom anymore than the police can and life goes on. She has to feed herself and her daughter so stop criticizing her. I hope she wins!
Read the story.....She has been and continues to look. Where exactly would you be looking?
This girl needs a break for sure.

Angela Martin is 28 years old, therefore, she was 17 or 18 yrs. old when she had her daughter.
